Little cluster at the top of my spreadsheet this month, including Ursa, Teresa, Cornelius, Hairbrain and Hex; but I finally went with StormFeather.

No, I didn't quite roll a die, but I'm really not certain the results would have been that much less accurate.

Oh my goodness me!

Have been away for a while, and come back to find a mention in Chel's shortlist and two votes - Thank you so much Chrispy and Taly!!!! *dancing a little jig around the room!!*

Wow . . really didn't expect anything this month as feltI could have done better if I'd had more time.

right, well am spending rest of day sorting out work/school/nursery stuff ready for tomorrow, but hope to be able to do a read through and vote soon. There has been a story that has stuck with me, but am going to hold back on mentioning it until I've had a chance to give them all a proper perusal.

*dances off round the house singing a silly little happy song*:D

Wow that was tough, another impressive month and a strong start tot he 2nd year of our comp. Can I call it OUR comp, having been here from the beginning I feel as though I have some part in it. anyway.

My short list, whittled until my fingers bled

Hex
Harebrain
Perpetual Man
Boneman
hoopyfrood
Ursa Major

Although I was mightily impressed with Ursa's heavenly entry, I had to go for Harebrain, anything with the word tentacular as an adjective for sex is going to win for me, Fantastic!

I decided to go with Mouse again. You just can't think of Paranormal Romance and not think "fairy tale". :D

After all, there's no such thing as Prince Charming, either. And he must really be a player, too, now that I think of it. Snow White, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty.....hasn't anyone told this guy that polygamy is illegal in most states!?! ;)

Have you ever read Fables, Karn? (Comics/Graphic Novel from DC/Vertigo) That pretty much sums up Prince Charming there...

Here's my shortlist...

Paranoid Marvin
Mouse
Harebrain
Boneman
Digs
Precise Calibre
Nixie
Bob S Snr
Ursa
TJ
Cul

I'll shrink it down again and hopefully vote tomorrow...

As always everyone made it onto my first list! Many thanks for the mentions, for those who gave them, as always it really makes my day.

Woo! Thanks, Karn! :D I wasn't expecting any mentions this month, let alone a vote! (And thanks to those who mentioned me!)

I voted for Moonbat. Because it ticked all the boxes for me. Good stuff!

And nope, no such person as Prince Charming. I've looked.

*wanders off singing to herself*

Prince Charming, Prince Charming
Ridicule is nothing to be scared of
Don't you ever, don't you ever
Stop being dandy, showing me you're handsome...

Since the voting has started, I think it's safe for me to add the other entry I've made. If this is off limits, feel free to clip it.

I'm not going to remove it, but just for future reference we do prefer that these things be posted after the voting.

Mouse, I wondered where the title of your story came from (my ignorance of contemporary music is vaster than empires). Now that I was able to look up the verse, all becomes clear to me.

Good, good. I did wonder how many people would know it! I figured it could have a few meanings regarding the story so went with it. :)

(I'd like to point out that I was only a teeny tiny foetus when that song was released... in case people were thinking I was older 'n what I am.) ;)

Thankee to sais Chel and Alchemist - a mention is always appreciated.

I haven't even read through all the entries yet, so I've gotta get my head down and get a shortlist together...

My list -

HareBrain - I Married Cthulhu
Boneman - Cold-Hearted Love
No One - Ghost in the Machine
Digs - In Ordinary Things
Greenkidx - Multiplication
HoopyFrood - Tonight Will Be A Memory Too

The sensible thing to do would be to wait til the end of voting to say thanks for the mentions, but then I wouldn't want to miss anyone and I shouldn't have to repeat myself too often.*

In short, thank you Slack!

*That is not, I hasten to add, being self-critical. It's a compliment to the standard of writing. ;)

I hope everyone in AW thinks of it as Our Challenge! And you certainly have had a large part in it, Moonbat, with your exemplary record, and not just in contributing pieces, either, but coming into the Discussion threads and posting.

... my ignorance of contemporary music is vaster than empires...
Ah-ha! Vegetable Love! That would have been an eye-catching entry. Parsnip calling to parsnip; miscegenation amongst the marrows... Had we but world enough, and time, I might write such an earthy tale -- though it would probably be a bit on the slow side.

And thank you for the short list honourable mentions, Boneman, nixie and Perpetual Man! I wasn't happy with mine, having left it so late, so I'm glad it's tickled some fancies.

But a Marvell to behold, no doubt.

And I concur with TJ, Moonbat. Without the participation of our regulars, there might not be a Challenge still running after a year. I think every one deserves credit for it's longevity.

THANK YOU to all who mentioned my little tale, It is always such a treat to see my story mentioned! Thank You. At work now will properly thank you each when I get home...

Short list:

Ursa: It just needed to be told.

psychotick: True love will out.

digs: Somehow haunting.

TheDustyZebra: Chuckles: and I suspect that's what will happen come the time.

OneBigPotato: Sadly, we do all grow up.

Precise Calibre: Romance, you can't beat it.

Hex: Cruel, though fair.

Perpetual Man: Topical and accurate.

Vote went to Perp.
