Thanks for the vote, Gary. :):)

So well done Ursa, I woudl've voted for you anyway as your a geordie; and your an old bugger, like me.
I can't deny that I'm no longer... well... a teenager :)rolleyes:), but I can't claim to be a Geordie. I was born in John Bunyan territory, i.e. down south. However, both my parents are from Cumbria, which not far away from the North East. And during the Great Depression, one of my grandfathers cycled up to Carlisle from the Cumberland coast and then across the Pennines (on the A69) to Newcastle to find work. I hope that's enough to keep you happy about voting for my Challenge entry.

(If not, I'm sure those two bears will be around to cheer you up. :))

And thanks for the mention, Brev. (I've run out of smileys, so a :) will have to do.)

I thought you all might be interested in something that has just been announced for the 300 Word Challenge. As some of you may remember, we wanted to make the new Challenge different from this one in ways that went beyond the expanded word count. And now we can tell you more about that.

This announcement does not mean that there will be a similar change in the way this 75 Word Challenge is run. I am linking to the announcement about the other Challenge here, simply because the Discussion threads move so quickly, some of those who will want to know the news might otherwise miss it.

So without further ado:

Announcement About the 300 Word Challenge

Have been squealing and running round the kitchen!!!!!!!!! Thank you so much ChaoticHeart and No One for the mentions - really made my day!
And thank you to Crys, and my mystery person (if I've missed you i'm sorry) for the votes. You've made my week! Hurrah!!!:D:D

I made my vote earlier as I didn't want to forget the deadline this time. Although I had a last read through, and ended up with a 'short' list that had over 60% of the stories in it, there had been one which stuck with me ever since I first read it.

Therefore, my vote went to Hoopy, for a tale which really caught my imagination, and special mentions for:

Harebrain, Taly, No One, digs, OneBigPotato, Cornelius, Nixie, TEIN, Mosaix, Bookstop and Ursa

Now, how long do I have to write a 300 word story . . . ? *have just read Teresa's post which came in while I was typing - even more incentive then!*

You're right, TJ.

* Wanders off to talk to his muse: "You see, it's such a small amount of blood I need from your stony heart." *

That ought to sort things out....

Sometimes the best jokes are entirely unintentional. :(:)

No problem.

(So the chuckle I had was doubly accidental. Just goes to show....)

Another hard decision.

I didn't set out to make a long list, it just happened that way... Just missing the cut for the short list were alchemist, cornelius, crystal haven, High Eight, mosiax, onebigpotato, Precise Calibre, TEiN and Teresa** (and many others only just missed out on that list)

** am I the only one to have seen "ugly as a bear" and wondered about her and Ursa...?

The eventual (after much groaning and moaning) short list:

Boneman -- Cold-Hearted Love -- a machine more human than the human
Brev -- Angels never lie: -- clever turn from high spirits to tension
Culhwch -- Beastly -- showing the real beast
Hilarious Joke -- Let me tell you how I have run -- a wonderfully poetic feel (even if I didn't understand the story...)
HoopyFrood -- Tonight Will Be a Memory Too -- so very poignant
No One -- Ghost in the Machine -- simple but haunting
RSliwinski -- 800 Meters -- I love the final lines
Talysia -- Love unto death, and... -- sweet and poignant

A very hard choice, but in the end I plumped for RSliwinski: the hint of the past, the useless denial, the final lines, all made it special (though if someone could explain the title I'd be grateful...)

And a special mention to digs -- I loved the truth of the story, showing the real lasting love there, but for me it didn't quite fit into the paranormal part of the genre.

We're up to 50 votes now, only 7 shy of the total entries, so not as bad as we feared earlier this evening.

And I've had a mystery voter (unless I've missed a post) -- thank you, whoever you are!

A near-shortlist. Thanks TJ :D

Exciting on the poll now; another late-night spectator event.

Thanks for the vote, Gary. :):)

Aye that's good enough for me. Your hired furry boy!!

Thanks to whomever voted for mine, so I successfully avoided a null point. I'm happy to see also that my favourite is the current joint leader. (psst - I was the first to go out on a limb to vote for it. It's nice to see that I wasn't alone.)

Well if that happened to be mine, then I'll happily iterate my previous thanks! (those mystery voters are so...mysterious).

And thankee to Stormfeather, TJ, and Crys for mentions. :)

Well I had to do a double take because I seem to have a vote.

I've checked and the I can't see anyone confessing to the deed, so whoever you are, thanks. (and if I missed you sorry)

Thanks to all who mentioned me in their 'lists'

Only about twenty minutes to go, and we're still only at 50 votes. I wonder how many people have simply lost track of the time with all of the holiday and wedding hoopla?

I won't lie, I thought I had another day yet... But I have voted now.

And many thanks for all the mentions! I have seen them all, but have done most of my browsing by phone this month, which makes posting prohibitive.

This was one of my least succesful months, as far as votes go - I think I should leave the twisting of fairytales to the Mouse...

Let me be among the first to congratulate Ursa! A most deserved victory.

With final thanks to those who voted for my story. Couldn't be more chuffed. :)

You slipped in before me. Let me be the second to congratulate Ursa!

And you certainly made it an interesting race, No One.

Though it would have made the exact wording of the revised thread title ... interesting, had it been you who won.
