1.08 Game of Thrones - The Pointy End

Agreed. I found my attention began to wander whenever we cut to him.

I'm glad it's not just me. I was worried I was going to be drowned out by shouts of 'blasphemer!'

Good to see Ghost, Grey Wind and Rickon (I wonder if any non-book-readers had a clue who Rickon was).

I did wonder who the boy was for a brief moment, and I have read the books!

One other thing did annoy me, which I've just remembered. Osha's hair. Seriously, push it out of your face, woman!

Wow. HoooDOR!

Good to see Ghost, Grey Wind and Rickon (I wonder if any non-book-readers had a clue who Rickon was).

Hodor indeed!!!! When you're this big, they call you mister.

Well, it was preceded within seconds of Robb telling Bran that he needed to leave and that Bran must be strong and take care of his brother. And then Rickon did not believe Bran when he said Father and Mother were comign back. But there are too many characters for a non-reader to keep straight I suppose.

I looked it up on IMDB and Osha is played by Natalia Tena who plays Tonks in the Harry Potter series and was also in About a Boy.

Another good episode:

- no gratuitous sex/nudity -
In terms of story, it struck me strange how Dany pitied the lamb women, yet as was stated, they were collecting slaves to collect gold to buy ships to make war on Westeros, and yet she's being squeamish of war. And that the Dothraki had no healers of their own.

If the Lamb women scene had the violence of the rape described in the book then it wouldn't have seemed so strange.
The book also says the Dothraki did have healers but they were busy tending to others?

The best episode yet! Some things that stood out for me were;

Catelyn and Robb's scene where they that discuss failure is not an option. I thought the interaction between the two was excellent.

Robb asserting control of his bannerman. You can see that he is a Stark and the added scene with the spy was well done. I would have liked to have seen Rickard Karstark and Roose Bolton.

The Ravens leaving Winterfell sent a chill up my spine.

Syrio's fight was great and all that I hoped it would be.

I was underwhelmed by Shagga, Timett and Chella, although Jerome as Bronn is very good.

The Dothraki scenes are still the weakest part of the show for me and only watchable because of Iain Glen's portrayal of Mormont.

I miss Roz :)

Best episode yet, and GRRM proved you can have a very successful episode without infohumping. :)

Loved loved loved the scenes with Robb! I thought he did superb and is playing the character beautifully. He was definately my favorite this episode. I loved Drogo's scene except for the way in which he acquired his wound.

If only GRRM could write all the episodes. I seriously can't wait for the remaining episodes.

Did anyone else find it really strange how Rickon (is that his name, i can't remember) just popped up in Brans' room all of a sudden? I'd completely forgottent about him and it must of been very confusing if you havn't read the book.

I agree, they only showed him for a brief moment in the first episode. So the regular viewer was probably saying "Who the heck is this?"

Lady of Winterfell-I lilked the scenes with Robb too, glad he is taking control of the situation like a true Stark.

Ahhh...like a true Stark. That is to say... another self-righteous know-it-all.

GRRM proved with this episode that a script writer can stick to what's in the book and it works just fine. In fact, this is the best written episode so far.

Hopefully for season 2 the writers will take heed of the negative feedback for the scenes they've added and stay true to GRRM's masterpiece.

I agree this was the best episode yet. But that is because I knew what was on the way. There is plenty of talk on other sites, blogs, reviews that the best episode so far has been The Lion and The Wolf.

If the writers stay true to GRRM for season 2 then the series will end up a disaster. Book 2 will be a far tougher task to film than AGOT.

Well, we can see that HBO believes that episodes 1, 6 and 9 are the best Directed and episode 9 is the best written if you judge it by the submission they made for consideration for the Emmys. Hope they get many nods and I have no doubt they will. It is already up for a Critic's Choice Award for best drama.

Lena Headey's up for best lead actress? I actually can't recall her displaying any particular emotion.

No, she's not nominated (yet). Her name has been submitted for consideration by those who decide on the nominations. The same is true of the entire list above.

I am confident GOT will get both an Emmy and Golden Globe nomination for best drama.

I wouldn't have considered her the 'lead' actress of the show - I wouldn't consider anyone in that role. It's truly an ensemble effort, and I think Sean Bean only scrapes into the lead category just barely...
