First review of ADWD.

Generally very positive (and slightly spoilery) but Pub Weekly advises some caution. Whilst the book has many more plot-important events than AFFC due to the presence of Jon, Tyrion and Dany it still has the same 'feel' as AFFC (I presume that means writing style). The review also indicates that the book has a huge climax (the Knot?) but that there's a lot of scene-setting for Book 6 (which of course is years away still) as well.

Not entirely sure how to take that. The review is generally good, and it sounds like there's lots more movement and important events than in AFFC, but there is also that note of caution. Hmm.

Trey!!!

Where have you been these last, years, I think it has been?

I too am doing my AFFC re-read. I have not read the review and do not want to at this point.

Because of the shipping i'm getting the book late August...
AAAAARRRRRGHHHH...
(at least i think i'm getting it late, it's confusing. One the amazon.co.uk site it first say something about Free standard shipping (3-5 days) but when i order it, it changes and i'm getting it only between 5-25 august).

Btw, is it only me or is that reviewer lettings us know that a Blackfyre pretender has raised it's head?

That's interesting what it said about the 'revived' thing.

I haven't read the review yet, because I hate spoilers. Does it really give much away? I don't mind broad outlines of the plot (i.e. Tyrion crosses the Narrow Sea to ???wherever), but I don't want anything too specific. Should I read it?

I didn't think it was spoiler-y at all. If it were, how many thousands of fans would be up in arms over it? The creators of that site would be crucified. It's a harmless review.

Just cancelled my hardback pre-order and pre-oreded the eBook for my kindle, will buy a hard copy when in paperback to match the others

It wasn't spoilery at all apart from saying there are hints to JS's parentage, I predict more crackpot theorying few days after release lol

Not sure I used real words in the above but ne'er mind

OK, I decided to bite the bullet and read it. There definitely was some spoiler-y stuff, which I'm going to try to put it out my mind until next month. But having said that ...

@Mouse "Revived"? I tell ya, UnRenly's coming back, and with even better outfits this time!! OK, we know Theon is coming back, but that review kinda implies that there might be more than one. Maybe FrankenGregor? Would he count? I wonder also if it means that there may not be any Eddard-style shocker deaths in this book.

What do you think the "heart-hammering" conclusion might be? Maybe The Others coming over the wall? Maybe the Wall falling down?

What did you think was spoiler-y? I'm willing to bet the dust jacket on the hardcover edition spoils a lot more than that review.

Argh! Now I'm already impatient for book 6!

He'll be graveyard FAAABULOOOOOUSSS!

What did a little bird tell ya.
There really are a bunch of spoilers to be found in that review.

KiwiBird, you were right and I should've listened! :)

ViZion, I think the review had more spoilers than you would find on the book jacket. For me, the single biggest give away was that Tyrion is kidnapped by slavers (spoiler in light text). I didn't know this and it's quite a big giveaway I think. Things like Jon facing treachery, and a heart-hammering conclusion and so on aren't so bad because they're fairly general and could be interpreted in a number of ways. It's when a review delves into very specific plot lines that I don't like it and consider it a spoiler.

I'm not going to risk reading the review.

(In fact, I'm reading this thread with my hand covering most of the screen, just in case I catch a glimpse of something I wouldn't want to know about ADWD.)

If he brings Ned back to life I will give up on the series. Dead is dead and bringing characters like him and others back lessens the impact of their initial roles. It was one of the many things that annoyed me about the Wheel of Time series.

Jon facing treachery is straightforwards enough considering he has Janos Slynt for company.

Possibly the Dothraki horde, and crew of course, landing in Westeros? Maybe, being led by someone on dragon back?
