First review of ADWD

ViZion, I think the review had more spoilers than you would find on the book jacket. For me, the single biggest give away was that Tyrion is kidnapped by slavers (spoiler in light text). I didn't know this and it's quite a big giveaway I think.

I don't know, I think that is generally the kind of thing that ends up on dustjackets...

Question

I hesitate to participate in this thread for fear of actual spoilers. Does the review talk about anything that isn't already known, in other wods, something proprietary from the actuall book that hasn't been seen in a preview chapter or on GRRM's blog? If someone would be good enough to send me a PM with the answer I'll be grateful, although I do leave for Boston in the AM and probably won't look at this for a week :)

Dobby kills Buckbeak.

Lol, if you've read anything on this board that review isn't spoilerish.

Trey!!!

Where have you been these last, years, I think it has been?

I too am doing my AFFC re-read. I have not read the review and do not want to at this point.

Hey TK!
Yes, been gone more or less since 2007 or so. Been waiting for the next book!

I think there is one small fact in the review that has not been mentioned anywhere in a preview or sample chapter, and it's relatively small-fry. The rest of it is pretty general.

The only thing that I found important was the fact that there are hints towards more revelations of Jon's parentage. And this spoils quite a bit. This proves that his descent is not so clear-cut as Ned + some skanky maid.

I realize most of us have suspected this already, but I find this proves it.

I'm not so sure Syphon. It could just be info on Jon's mother, which doesn't negate Ned still being his father. Personally, I don't think that's what it'll be, but we can't absolutely rule it out.

Fair enough. But do you at least agree that this means there is more to it than just "Ned had a hussy along the way"?

Yes, I agree it probably does. Obviously, without knowing what the story says, it's difficult to predict, and I wouldn't put it past GRRM just to put something misleading in there just to mess with us, but I think the chances of Jon parentage being Ned and some nobody are pretty slim.

But why is this at all surprising? We've pretty much just been waiting for confirmation of L+R=J for YEARS now.
