Well it might seem as a surprise, as no one seems to be reading it, but A Dance With Dragons is now being read by myself.

Would n't it be a coincidence if someone else happened to be reading it at the same time?

Huh, never heard of it.

I think you mean "Dances with Wolves". A Dance With Dragons, huh , honestly.

Wrapped up James Ellroy's 'The Big Nowhere.' Excellent as usual... he rivals Chandler/Hammett for my fav crime author. Nobody does damaged men trying to salvage some humanity among the worst society has to offer better than he does. Not quite as good as LA Confidential/American Tabloid... but those two are among the best novels I ever read, period, so...

Now I'm going to take my first crack at China Mieville with 'Perdido Street Station.' I hear good things.

Yeah, turned up at yesterday right at the close of the day (I didn't know they delivered that late!)

I finished A Dance with Dragons this lunchtime. I think it would be best if I said nothing about the book in this post, this being a general thread an all.

But I did very much enjoy it. :):)

Ursa! Did you not sleep?! I've seen the size of the book... I'm reading it right now. I've read the prologue so far and that's it. Reckon I might've finished it by Christmas. Maybe.

I agree. Have you read "The Black Dahlia" and "White Jazz"? I love his books:)

I've read Dahlia, but not White Jazz yet. Sadly, I read his LA quartet all out of whack... some day I'll have to reread them from the beginning.

Just finished "Fevre Dream". Great story!
Unsure what to read next. Toying with the idea of some fantasy - probably Erikson or McKillip. Or maybe something else ... Like Gene Wolf?

You rang?...:D Glad you liked Fevre Dream. Forgotten Beasts of Eld is good but make sure you read Ridldemaster of Hed as well. You rang I meant in terms of Gene Wolfe. Check out Book Of The New Sun, arguably Gene's greatest work and freely available in Masterwork edns. For short story collections there are plenty but try Best Of Gene Wolfe- a retrospective published last year or possibly Storeys From The Old Hotel, a collection of Gene's personal favourtie stories. Other works by Gene you may wish to check out include the wonderful Soldier Series, Fifth Head of Cerberus and Peace which is an early novel but one of his best (both of these works are in the Masterwork series) Free Live Free and There Are Doors.

Thanks, Gollum I have "Shadow and Claw", "The Fifth Head of Cerberus" and "The Riddlemaster of Hed" on my Kindle. I'm enjoying a (rather unsusual for me) foray into fantasy!

Meanwhile, I am doing the ironing while listening to an audiobook of "The Time Machine" and really enjoying that. Haven't read it for so long. Wells is so good it's easy to forget that and to take him for granted!
:D:D
