ADwD what questions do you hope you'll find answered

He was the king. He could do whatever he wanted.
He did whatever he wanted and look what it got him.

He was A king... not THE king. The Lord Commander of the NW and the King of the Seven Kingdoms will decide who Jon will be.

At the time he was THE king in the North, not A king in the North. I'm not saying that Jon was legitimized (I still think that was what Robb did) or that it will stand. I'm just saying he was the undisputed king of his peoples, and as far as they were concerned, his ord was law. But might makes right, especially in the Seven Kingdoms. Besides which, I doubt Jon would want the crown...

Double post.

In my reread of AFFC, in Arys Oakheart's first POV (The Soiled Knight - which by the way has a pretty steamy sex scene between Arys and Arianne that I hope will not draw complaints when/if it appears on HBO) there is, I think, a very important story Arianne tells to Arys about the Kingsguard and Ser Criston Cole, also known as the "Kingmaker".

He earned that nickname when he defied King Viserys' will and instead of crowning his daughter, Rheanyra, who was his rightful heir, he crowned Aegon II, also known as Aegon the Unworthy.

This touched off a civil war within House Targaryen that implicated the entire realm and became known as The Dance of the Dragons.

More information on it can be found here:

I believe that the title of the book, ADWD, is no mere accident and that history will be repeated in some fashion.

This is where The Mummer's Dragon (Auranne Waters posing as baby Aegon who survived???) may come into play and the Mereneese Knot will be untied.

Cul, I'm just arguing that might makes right in Westeros. If Starks or Stark allies ultimately wrest the Iron Throne from the Lannisters or, more likely, they somehow regain the North and withstand reunification, then Jon, Bran, Rickon, Sansa, Arya, or Robb's son can be king. But there's a lot of killing and political maneuvering to be done for the Starks to call themselves Kings in the North. And one way or another that decision goes through King's Landing.

One more question that occurred to me while I was finishing up AFfC...

Where the hell did Tyrek Lannister get off to? Varys could have had him kidnapped or something, but what good would he be at that point?

Anybody?

I thought it was accepted that Tyrek had just been outright killed in that riot. Could be wrong, been awhile since my last reread.

Boaz: I don't necessarily think that decision goes through King's Landing at all. I don't see a King in the North being re-established, mind, but King's Landing would have little to do with it if, say, Roose Bolton somehow won the approval of all those north of the Neck, manned Moat Cailin, and threw off the Ironborn. The only ruler in King's Landing that would be able to say, 'Hold on, not on my watch!' and do something about it would be Dany, provided her dragons weren't killed in the taking of the Crownlands and any other regions she had conquered...

They never found Tyrek's body so he could possibly be still alive somewhere

Thanks for looking this out TK. Now that I finally had the chance to read it, I think it's a great theory, but I'm not convinced.

Maybe Howland Reed will show up as the mystery new POV in ADwD. Which ties in nicely with the new information supposedly coming to light about Jon's parentage.

Woohooo you dragged up my Howland Reed crackpot theory! Makes my Day! Hey even I'm not convinced, but there is enough there in his scenes that it just could be. :) But I would love it to be true. Again, seriously makes my day :)

As Tansy says, they never found a body, so draw your own conclusions. What really caught my though, was on my AFfC reread, Jaime called specific attention to his disappearance and it seemed kind of out of no where for me, it really struck me as an authorial "hey, this is still an open question" moment. but I could be wrong, reading too much into it...

Yeah, Howland Reed is mysterious enough that your theory isn't in the Completely Loony compartment. It's possible, but maybe not plausible. But, I gotta say, it's well thought out and put together so kudos for that! :)

My burning questions are:

1) What happened to Rickon? Is he okay?

2) What is Bran doing beyond The Wall? Did he find the three-eyed-crow?

3) What happened to Benjen Stark?

4) What is Arya's next move?

(you can see I have a lot of questions about the Starks)

5) Tyrion! Where's he been? Where's he going? What's he doing? Is his parentage the "mystery" we're going to see solved? (Yes I ascribe to the theory that Tyrion is half-Targ)

6) Is Stannis really this stupid? When will he figure out that Melisandre is playing him like a fiddle? (I think Mel is going to sacrifice Stannis to her fires, personally)

7) What's the deal with Coldhands?

8) Did all those hundreds of thousands of wildling army just vanish?

9) Where is Jorah? Whose cause will he take up?

10) Did Loras really go to Storms End or did he go to Dany?

11) Where did Varys go? Who's he with now and what's his angle?

12) How will Cersei die? I hope it's slow and painful.

I have others, but they're floating in my head only half formed. I would love it if we learned about Jon's parentage but don't think we will. I believe as many do that he is the son of Rhaegar and Lyanna.
