Glamorous Melisandre [ADWD SPOILERS]

Good point TSW, never really saw the color connection. Mel is described as the red woman, red from the flames? Moqorro is very black and Victarion's arm is black as well from his healing. Outward indications of their abilities?

Mel says she is better at seeing in the flames than others. I think they probably specialize based on natural abilities, just like the ability to warg is inborn, some things have to be there naturally, then through training are recognized.

A somewhat off-the-wall thought: perhaps Moqorro is the shadow referred to in the prophecy.

I figured that these sorcerous priests of R'hllor seem to be extremes. Melisandre is said to be exceedingly fair skinned, but I'm willing to bet she didn't start out that way. Nor red haired, nor red-eyed. Moqorro was already dark skinned to begin with, so maybe it just went the other direction, or maybe he is a secret priest of the Other.

I'm very suspicious of these R'hllor people altogether, and their god. Something seems off about the whole thing. They rationalize away the shadows as being cast by light, and so creatures of their god, but it just doesn't seem right. There's definitely something in the milk, there. And then the monkeys. When Moqorro healed Victarion's arm all the monkeys started screaming and jumped ship. Clearly something dark and unnatural.

Mel thinks she's good at reading the flames but she's actually pretty terrible at it. Moqorro's readings (at least the ones he shared with Victarion) were spot on every time. Maybe he's simply a better priest than she is.

One of my favorite moments was when Moqorro called the Drowned God a demon servant to Victarion's face. Took guts despite all he had done for Big Vic. He became one of my new favorites after that.

Yeah, but he was also scrying for simpler things. Like three ships off some island. Melisandre saw a girl on a grey horse, and when the letter would arrive, etc. You might say she's worse at interpreting the visions, but then she also seems to be looking for less concrete occurrences. It seems the visions come as purely visual things, there's no subtitles or context or anything else besides the image.

That said, we also know she's totally wrong about Stannis, so...there's a great deal of her credibility gone right there.

I would like to know how Melisandre would react to and deal with the wights and the Others.
