Done dancing and my feet hurt.... my thoughts SPOILERS

I enjoyed every page of the dance. So now Bran is at one with the network of ancient trees--telecommunications? Bran inhabits other peopel.

The whole treatment ot Jon and Dany showed that they lacked a trustworthy hand. Hello nuncle Tyrion! He wil help train the dragons and make the saddles. He will not get a crispy coating because he is a Targ really from Aerys and Joanna. He will help Jon get back the wall with a dragon pack and a queen.

Arya's gotta be sent to do in fake Arya.

Loras will do in Cersei

Young Griff and Jon Connington will do well, but Jon has an expiry date so he can't be a regent for long.

I was thinking that Arya would take out The *******. THAT would be sweet.

JC definitely has an expiry date. Hopefully Tyrion doesn't. And how long is he going to hold onto those mushrooms for?

Would love to see Ramsay get his from the real Arya (even if we're not likely to ever see a chapter heading of 'ARYA' again, which implies lots of things that make me sad :()

But good point on the mushrooms - I'd borne them in mind throughout the book and forgot about them since. With GRRM's habit of turning unlikeable characters on their heads, what if Tyrion is due for similar, but inverse, treatment? Killing Dany would be a hell of a way to announce his return to Westeros, for instance . You can file that under the Whacko Conjecture category.

Perhaps it's time for an Arya speculation thread :)

Horrible thought about Tyrion killing Dany, but nothing is impossible :(

* Imagines JC holding up his now-grey finger to Ramsay and saying, "Try flaying that, *******!" *

And leave the fake Arya alone. Hasn't she suffered enough? (Probably not, knowing GRRM....)

I think it would be perfect if JC gave the ******* the finger. It would be very satisfying if Arya took out Ramsay, Roose, Walder, or Cersei.

Yes, really I do think that the fake Arya has suffered enough. (married to Ramsay? shudder) The imp in me just thought that it would be very odd for Arya to be given an assignment to remove the one who is pretending to be her.

Seems like Jeyne and Theon have had an anti-Romantic introduction, I wonder how the relationship will develop? What happens to this hapless pair now?

Also, I just think GRRM is being tidy in removing all the major characters from the parental unit generation, JC being another one with the stature to be a Hand when Winter Comes. Greyscale gives him time to launch Young Griff (real or fake Aegon), tell what info he knows, start off the next battle for Westeros, and then croak. Otherwise, he would be a logical Hand, and there are solutions what would work much better for the story, don't you think?(I'm looking at you Tyrion)

They could make the perfect pair! A girl who probably never wants to have sex again and the boy who is missing "that other thing"! along with his fingers and toes!

Reading your post made me realize that Ramsey has replaced Walder frey as the character I hate the most. it's actually not even close, as Frey at least imagined that he was justified in doing what he did. Bolton is just pure evil and just an absolutely sick ******* (pun intended i guess)

I found it a much more enjoyable read than AFFC, so was greatly relieved. I'm with a lot of people who find that Dany has gone down in the old estimation, while Arya's stock continues to rise. It would be sweet if her apprenticeship is to be served with Jaqen H'ghar, at Oldtown maybe? And the kindly man being Syrio is an intrigue I hadn't thought of tbh; I like it - would this mean that Ned may have had some contact with the Faceless Men, and some actions to be performed in the event of his death are in the offing?

Syrio being Jaqan is one of my pet crackpot theories. The naysayers have yet to explain to me how a Faceless Man was captured and then remainedc confined in a dungeon cell. I also don't beleive that Syrio would lose a fight to an oaf like Trant. All he need was a sword, as Bron proved agai9nst Egan. Syrio "escaping' to the dungeon and "becoming Jaqan may have been the plan all along. Ned certainly was making contingency plans for his children.

Does a faceless man, then, need to have a fresh face to work with? I suppose there was a lot of choice at the time. Not really sure how that works unless you go to the Bravosi temple.

I think if Jeyne and Theon stayed together that would truly show love conquoring all in a way with a lot of heart. Reminds me of the tale of Heloise and Abelard--a true French story. It certainly wouldn't be your average Cinderella story.

Oh, I would love for Arya (or pretty much anyone) to nuke Ramsay . I would also love for big sister Asha to play the finger dance with him, till he has not much left. Do you think she would avenge her brother and fellow ironborn?

Theon must still have a role to play, and his character has been on a roller coster.

People complained a bit about Dany being insane and robotic or grandiose before. Maybe GRRM was humanizing her with her teen aged crush, and yet a responsible (in her mind) marriage. Also, he needed to demonstrate that Dany needs good counsel, and advisers, too. Do you think she is modelled on Elizabeth I?

There is definitely the makings of a good plot point. What will Tyrion do with the mushrooms that he has kept for so long other than make toe jam? (eew)

I don't know how you can assign this kind of forward-thinking and deviousness to Ned. For a start, when he hired Syrio, there was no indication that his daughters were in any peril (well, besides Sansa, who was betrothed to Joff). And then to have a plan that involved Faceless Syrio evading capture by going to the dungeons so that Yoren could chain him up and take him north so that he could watch over Arya...? Seriously? How many precise things have to happen for that scenario to play out exactly like that? Yoren has to be in on it for a start, and has to be able to find Arya in the hive that is King's Landing - I have no reason to believe that that was anything but chance. Too many unlikely happenings all lining up perfectly to make me believe it.

No. I think Syrio is dead, but even if he isn't, and is a Faceless Man, I can't see how you could possibly argue that Ned thought he was anything more or less than what he appeared.

My understanding of that chapter was that the faces were just one way of changing your appearance, and that the way other Faceless Men (more advanced in the craft, like Jaqen) did it was via a different, more magical means. Something akin to the glamour cast by Mel.

Within the Temple, those that came to die, their faces were taken.

Those are the faces that were hanging.

Each face contained a memory that caused it's request for death.

No One didn't know that stairwell, even with her cane.

About the faces, I wondered if, once you had "assimilated" a face, was it yours forever and you could call it up again at will, or is it a one time use only? I was leaning towards being able to reuse them, because once you magically took on that face, it became part of you and you could bring it out whenever you needed.

This is a great idea, no doubt born of a superb mind.

And I'm not just saying that because I thought the same thing :D

I think you're both correct. i'm thinking back to when Jaqan H'Ghar passed his hand down his face in front of Arya and became the man we later see at the Citadel. This would seem to support this theory.
