To Read Pile

How many............

............ books do you have on your shelf waiting to be read?

I totted mine up recently and it's 37! And some of these are HUGE books.

I then said to her indoors that I'm not buying any more books until I've brought the number down somewhat.

Then went on to order The Prince of Nothing series by R. Scott Bakker after reading some recommendations on The Chrons. Another three large tomes!

Be warned ........ it's dangerous reading recommendations on this site! ha ha

Erm ... none.

There are a few books on my shelves I haven't read, but they're not "waiting to be read" (or if they are, they'll be disappointed) as I probably never will read them. I tend to read books as I buy them, and buy them only when I want to read them. But from what I've seen of people discussing their TBR piles, I might be the only one!

Ain't that the truth! When I first found this place in law school I wound up with dozens of unread books constantly piling up until I caught up to some of the readers around here. I'm kind of OCD though and try not to buy new ones until my to-read pile is manageable, hehe. Right now I've got 2 books on my to-read shelf... Neuromancer and Matterhorn. I'm reading the Passage.

My goal is once I finish these to stick to the library for a while.

Soulsinging - The Passage is excellent read! Are you enjoying it? I finished it recently and can't wait for the next in the series. Definitely top of the "to read" pile when it comes out next year.

I'm not for sure, but something like 700 books to be read, half SFF the other half classics and non-fiction/history

I try to keep mine under control, but my wife bought me the Song of Ice and Fire four book set and I was in the middle of one book and had another one I had to read right away. maybe I'll get the first book read before the show starts it's second season...lol

probably not a record. But I have been buying books for 30 years now.

I don't really keep track of them, they are all over the place in boxes for the most part. I don't have much of a system except a pile next to the bed with the next several to be read. Sometimes I just reach into a box and pick a book at random.

I'll have to read faster than I buy books or I'll never catch up, likely I have 30 years worth of books not counting re-reads.

I have about half a dozen waiting to be read although there are considerably more that i want to buy, but i'll have to wait.

Mine would be near to 600 - 700 but then I'm a possibly a bit obsessive when it comes to purchasing and reading books.

I've been collecting/purchasing books for about 20 years now.

a few hundred. Lately I've been buying big lots of vintage paperbacks, like 5-20 at a time. Right now I have more money than time, so I'm into buying. At some point, I'll have more time than money so I'll get to read them all. I try to read at least 4 books a month right now.

I know I have about 50+ books in my TBR pile but I met a lady at a 2nd hand store and she claims to have read approx. 3000 SFF books since she was in primary school. I don't know how truthful she was but can you just imagine? She said she had about 4 rooms full of books. I think she was just telling some tall tales but I sure as heck would like to have read at least 100 in my life, and I have only read about 30 books in my lifetime so far. Slow reading speed plus ADD makes it difficult even though I love it so much!!
 
I rarely hold on to books after I've read them unless they have some obscure value to me. I usually take them down to the Y or something for kids to have a poke over.

Finally finished another one...down to 4.

I wouldn't be quite so inclined to be sceptical. I've read goodness knows how many books in my time, but at one point I was reading 2-3 a day; I've known someone who would read as many as 5 a day (granted, they weren't the doorstops so many of today's books are, but still...), and whenever he went anywhere, he carried a backpack full of them on a daily basis, so he wouldn't run short. so there are certainly people who could have read that many, and more....
