Ok, I have to admit something: I didn't read Dance, because it is not translated and distributed in my country yet and buying it online would end up costing me over 100$ thanks to strict laws and ruinous post and delivery rates.

So, I wanted to know, how many posters of this forum didn't read A Dance With Dragons and why?

YS, I think you're going to be the only no vote, except for Soulsinging. Is there any way we might be able to help you get a copy, perhaps mail one to you from the USA?

No, I'm also a no. I've got it and I've read the prologue, I've just put it aside for now as it turns out there's other things I've got that I want to read first. I guess that because it was so long ago that I read AFFC that I'm just worried that I'll no longer care for the characters, like what happened when I started to read JV Jones's Sword from Red Ice - I also barely remembered what happened in the last books, despite her catch-up at the start.

As well as that, why rush to read it? I mean, I figured it'll be a while until the next one's out anyway, so I might as well take my time. :)

So yes. No for me, but it's not a forever no.

I'm a no, too. Just haven't got round to buying it yet. Can't really splash out on a hardback beast like that at the moment.

Early days yet, but I hope you didn't put money on the first few results...:p

I haven't bought it, or read it. The chief reason is that I can't remember where the characters are, who's alive or who's dead, or indeed any of the plot points of AFfC. And I'm damned if I can really be bothered to re-read any of the other books just to catch up. At my age, I want to read new stuff, before it's too late.

In short, George, you've lost me. Too long between, and no character I care about enough to commit myself again. Sorry...

I'll say yes, just to help balance the books a bit :)

That's a tough break though YS - hope you can get hold of a copy soon.

My reputation precedes me ;)

I've not read it. I was very dissatisfied with AFFC and the reviews for ADWD don't do much to reassure me (I think he's lost control and will never finish the series), so I've decided to wait until the series is done before reading anything else.

That stinks about your trouble getting it though. Where do you live? Maybe someone here could gift it to you, hehe.

I would be willing to help if you guys want to. Just let me know what we need to do.

Young stormlord, you've got my sympathies. That's an outrageous sum for a book.

I have read it, and quite liked it.

I appreciate the sentiment(s) and your offers, but I'm afraid I have to refuse. I really don't want to put you to so much trouble for a book that will come out in here in two months or so :). I mean, I have waited for so many years, what are two months, I ask you?

Besides, I have 5 exams until I graduate and they all fall in September, so I should really get crackin' those books open and not GRRM's masterpiece :).

The situation is as follows: There is no paypal coverage for my country.
Banks take between 3% and 50% for wire to wire transfers in foreign currency, but no less than 5$. Every shopping of merchandise outside the country is considered to be importing that merchandise (outdated laws, remember?) and that has its own procedure and costs.

Fedex and DHL made a deal with state's post office and customs office, so they take over from customs and transport imported goods to closest post office, for charge between 15 Eur- 45Eur, depending of merchandise.

Any post package that passes over state borders will be opened and it's value "assessed", while ignoring receipts mailed therein.

All in all, I'd have better job to travel to Hungary or Slovenia and just buy the book there

stormlord, thanks for your thanks, the offer stands if you change your mind. I have to say your difficulties make me feel a little guilty! I live in the US where buying a book, almost any book (assuming you can afford it) is a simple matter of walking down the street or getting online! I try never to take such freedoms for granted and just gave me a fine example of why. I can relate to your exams quite easily though! I graduate from nursing school in Oct. with at least 1 major exam a week till then! Good luck, knock em dead!

I am also a no. I am waiting for the paperback version to be released. Hardcopy version tends to be more expensive.

Maybe I will borrow a copy from the library. At the moment, my attention is focused on wheel of time.

I read it and I must say that it gripped me just as strongly as the first book in the series. I can't wait for the next book.

Nope. Picked it up day one. Read the prologue and started in on the first POV. Couldn't remember how that character ended up where he was, or the events he was reminiscing about, so I put it down.

I'm on a reread of ACOK.

You couldn't remember what happened to Tyrion?
I'm impressed :)

^Big mistake! ADWD is the first epic fantasy book I have read that is writing Dragons the way they should be written; not docile beasts, or friendly companions, but dangerous bi-polar creatures who are crazy powerful, and can toast you in a second. The epic scale of the book covering multiple regions is also far greater than any of the preceding books, you're in the North, then in the South, then across the Narrow Sea, then at Slaver's Bay, then back in the Riverlands etc, all coherently written and executed.

I dare say this is the 2nd best book in the series so far, second only to "A Storm of Swords".

i'm liking it a LOT better the second time around. ADWD is now number 3 on my list after ASOS and AGOT.

^I read all five books in one go, in the span of two months, so everything was fresh in my mind with every new ASoIF book I picked up and read. Many fans had to wait a year or more each time a new book came out, and I don't think you can just take the new book and read it like that, it's to epic.

I think next year(or the year Winds of Winter comes out) I will go through all of them again, and will probably notice interesting bits I didn't the first time.

I must admit my statement isn't 100% accurate, but it had/has been a few years since I had finished ASoS. Events of not only that book, but also all the others was a bit foggy. I did read the series previously, and so obviously knew of the events that put Tyrion where he is in the opening. I just didn't feel that I would enjoy the ensuing portions of the book without a quick refresher.

The quick refresher, like many of the pleasant past times I enjoy, hasn't been as quick as expected. Life has been incredibly busy the past few months, and I've not found much time for myself, let alone for some of my non-children involved hobbies (like reading and tabletop gaming/preparation) so I'm just now approaching the ASoS finale.

I stumbled upon this link cleaning out my favorites folder, and thought I would poke my head in a bit. After quickly closing a few other topics before I burnt my eyes on the glowing red hot spoilers contained I found this topic that I believe to be safe.

Hopefully I will have my rereads behind me soon, that I may feast upon Dance, and speculate with the likes of you all as I wipe my mouth with my napkin. I doubt Dance will give me indigestion.
