Anyone seen Arrietty yet?

So a kind of balance was destroyed. I suppose that could apply to all of the blob monsters, including Fujimoto's fish. (And Howl's hair? Hmm. Sorry for the thread hijack.)

I have to say Princess Mononoke in my favourite Ghibli film. It also includes one of my all-time favourite moments in film, perhaps my favourite.

Well, at the risk of revealing myself to be a massive softie ...

It's where San chews Ashitaka's food for him because he's too weak. I've just watched that scene five times to make sure it deserved my accolade, and there's no question. I teared up every time.

Anyone wanna talk about Arrietty? This being the thread, after all?

Watched it tonight. Very pretty, very nice soundtrack, but not very interesting. Maybe a child will see it differently. I found the characters difficult to connect to, none of them coming across as very likeable, maybe except Arrietty's extremely stoic and steady father. The character intrigue held little potential - it was just Arrietty and Sho, and a standard formulaic Ghibli girl-boy interplay (like Chihiro and Haru, Sheeta and Pazu, Nausicäa and Asbel). A few laughs, primarily the cat, and the scene with the raven.

But to be fair, this is a directorial debut, and it's not much worse than Miyazaki's debut, Nausicäa of the Valley of the Winds.

Haven't watched Arietty yet as it isn't available until I think 9th Feb - but I love Nausicca and so does my daughter :) It has some of my favourite Ghibli moments.

I can't believe I missed this thread. From the trailers I've seen, it looks good, so hopefully I'll be able to get it on DVD soon. As a fan of just about anything Ghibli, I definitely want to watch this.

I reviewed it back in June. The movie, taken on its own, is ace, but like most anime interpretations/adaptations of western source material, it is a very poor representation of the source material. It was the same with Ghibli's Earthsea movie. (Directed by Miyazaki Hayao's son.)

Serious-faced fans of the Earthsea books should stay away from the Ghibli version, but since I'm pretty neutral toward the books, I liked it. It's more like an unofficial continuation than an adaptation.
