Who would think such a thing?

The gold was the giveaway....had to be a Lannister. LOL

Okay, here's mine:

Boys believe nothing can hurt them. Grown men know better.

That would seem logical but I'm afraid you're on the wrong end of the spectrum. It was not Barristan the Bold.

Nope, not Tyrion either. This one is a bit obscure. I'll give you a hint. The thinker, in this case, is displaying a rare moment of honest self-reflection. Very out-of-character for this individual.

Nope, not Jaime. But on the personality index you're getting warmer.

Boaz got it. Theon had that thought on his return to the Iron Islands, looking at a rickety bridge he used to race across as a boy. Your turn, Boaz!

Okay... give me the second speaker in this exchange.

First: "Don't even think about it."

Second: "I wasn't."

First: "You'd just.... by someone worse."

Second: "I would not. There is no one worse."

Oh that's a tough one.....if it's not BMFS then....hmmm....

There aren't that many male POV characters who are "old". I'm thinking it must be a prologue / epilogue character, so I'll go with Maester Cressen. Blind guess.
