Cairo Station Plot Problem

Reiver, fair enough, as you say, no excuse, but that changes the picture a little. Any closer to making a decision regarding the rescue vs escape?

I presume the majority of the plot takes place on the station? Just out of curiosity, really.

As mentioned before, does the woman serve a meaningful purpose. Is it necessary for her to return in order for the story to develop? Additionally, does she need to die in order for the story to develop? Which would work better?

How much of the plot have you already planned? If the answer is "all of it" then see if she would fit in later on.

If you only have a certain amount planned out, then it might be worth it if you write a rough chapter brief for each chapter or event in the storyline. This way you'll have a much better idea of where she fits in, if she needs to.

If the military have sanctioned the assassination then wouldn't they issue Cooper orders which would get his team close to the Admiral?

You could have Helen and her husband part of that group, betting it gives them a good chance of escape from the station.

When Reizac and McMaster carry out the assignation all hell could break loose and the group splits up. Cooper could decide, or accidentally, end up with Helen.
