Thanks Springs, AMB. The Webley is due to research on another project some months ago. MstrTal's arsenal salivation reminded me.

Well I figure for this here challenge one can't fail but look to Merle Haggard, Willie Nelson, Wailing Jennings, Hank Williams, H.P. Lovecraft, Wild Wild West, Maverick, Gunsmoke and Girl Genius for that there inspiration needed. Why I reckon even Blazing Saddles might rear up and bite me on the backside before all's said and done. No matter how ya skin it this here rascals gonna be a hoot!

Oh man, it looks like we've covered all the bases already, in only three stories!

I'm thinking that I live in Western territory, so I ought to have an advantage in coming up with something -- but then the guy in Bulgaria does skinwalkers. This is gonna be tough!

This really isn't my month, is it?

Well, I'll make my usual considerations, see what I can come up with....

Come on pardner. Git on yer horse and head for Montana.

I've already written a weird western story but unfortunately it doesn't fit the theme well. I've now borrowed a book from my father-in-law so I can get in character.

Squeeze the trigger don't yank Nixxie. . . wait wrong genre and movie. :p

If it makes you feel better I just typed out all the elements I want in my story and the elements alone are 97 words. 97 words and that is before trying to cram the keywords into a story. That's what I get for spending the last couple of hours listening to twangy country western. :(

If we're going with musicals like Oklahoma for inspiration, someone - it probably won't be me - might want to give their entry the title, O What a Beautiful Mourning.

(This seems almost appropriate, given that the Cowboys are just about to play at the Giants.... :()

Just because I'm an Oregonian doesn't mean I'm good with westerns. :p I could PROBABLY think something up decent, but I doubt it.

Will I think something up? Most likely, but I think it would match that travesty I put up on the Redemption theme. Ugh.

If I went much further west I'd be breathing salt water, but like you, Karn, I've got nothing.

Hey guys and girls! My name's Tom, and I'm new here.

Just submitted my first challenge story, and I'm excited to see how the competition turns out! To be honest, although mine is premised on a space-type western/soul searching frontiersman, you see very little "western" in what I wrote - although the title is a homage to Star Trek.

I enjoyed reading all the submissions so far, but I REALLY liked "The Man From Paradise" and "Love's Curse". I can already tell it's going to be a tough decision who to vote for when the time comes.

Reiver 33 --- That was brilliant! Puts me in mind of a Marty Robbins song: "Big Iron on His Hip."

I know last month's standard was high but it seems to me that -- somehow -- this month's is even higher. They're all excellent stories. I always like reiver's stories and this one's no exception, but I could vote for any of these.

(Hi Tom. Welcome to the Chrons -- I really liked your story).

Sigh.

Tom, I liked yours a lot for its Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy feel.
Arkose
, The idea of elves robbing a dwarven bank was brilliantly painted through dialog and action
Grizzgreen
, That’s love’s hardest test
Reiver
, I think the wings itching was the perfect touch
Abernovo
, I had to run over to Google and Wiki to see what a skinwalker was, you did such a wonderful job giving that name a haunting depth, I almost like what I imagined from your story better then the real thing. I think the best compliment I can give is to say your grey was a steely cobalt blue, but I doubt that will mean anything to anyone because I don’t really know how to describe it myself. Thing of color as emotion and that should get you about 1/3 of the way there. Sorry I don’t know the right words for what your imagery left me with, but I can tell you that I loved it.
AMB
, nice to put a person under a wandering star going with the theme
Spring
, BEST. TOMBSTONE. EVER. I was too busy reading to lol over all the catastrophes that dog helped save their best friends from, but believe me, it made my night to know that a good ol’ boy was there to stand by his masters, and that they were sorry to see him go. Honestly I would have tracked down that vampire and staked my claim to revenge.

HareBrain
, serious thumbs up for a contest that brings out so many good stories
