25 Reasons Real Books Are Here to Stay

I'm sure there's a similar list buried in some old newspaper archive about 25 reasons why silent films will never die out to the new talkie novelties. Well probably not a list because that would date back to a time before writing lists was considered a proper way to write an article.

Oh and as an aside... I've never got the reading in the bath thing. That's like knitting in the shower.

Ah no LL I love to read in the bath. Nothing quite like soaking in a deep bath with a glass of wine and a good book. And I do read my Sony in the bath. Well not actually in it; the Sony sits on one of those rack thingys that go across the bath. Never seems to have done it any harm!

Yeah, me neither! But then again, I don't like baths. :)

Now, reading while pool-side...well, that's a different story.

Maybe all these bath readers have special water that stays hot forever, or have a special towel handy to dry their hands on so they can not get their books wet (unless they don't care about that)... all seems a bit of a faff to me. I'd rather have a bath (centred around washing oddly enough) and then go and relax by a fire in a fluffy dressing gown to read.

Anyway, unless you're a clumsy oaf, you can still read an ereader in the bath if that's what you want, unless you actually like your hands to be dripping with water while you're reading, which would just ruin a paper book anyway.

You need to come to the Pacific Northwest (Seattle/Portland); I'll show you wonders you won't believe! :)

Just within a 10 mile radius of my zip code, there are over 20 book stores!

More than a handful of which have amazing SFF sections.

It's incredible here.

And I won't even mention Powell's in Portland, Or. Pretty much the Mecca of book stores.

I wanna move up there!!! I'm in Tennessee and all we have are Books'a'millions and Barnes and Noble. BUT, their selection is terrible.

if you don't have books, what are shelves for?

Cats love a good perch so they can look down on everyone else.

(I was in one used book store where a cat stepped off a shelf as I walked by. He settled himself across my shoulders and stayed there until I reached the checkout counter, which was his next stop.)

I read books and e-books. I much prefer the former, but the latter are cheaper, more convenient and, critically, take up zero physical space beyond the rather small volume occupied by my Kindle.

I tend to buy history and presents in physical format, and fantasy (and the odd sci-fi book) electronically.
