New movie The Wolverine

Wolverine is the heart of X-Men Series. I likes Origin of Wolverine and its great they come with another film of Wolverine.

Am i the only one that enjoyed The X-Men Origins Wolverine? But to stay on topic, i'm looking foward to this.

Welllll... I rewatched Origins about a week ago and my thoughts were much the same as when I watched it the first time around. It was fun, entertaining but it was never going to be a favourite movie.

Like so many of these superhero movies they tried to squeeze too much into it, to the point of knowing that the big-bad Stryker was not going to be permanently dealt with as he was the villain in X2,

As a series of individual set pieces it was spot on, as a fll movie it was a little overcrowded - but I enjoyed it for what it was.

The new movie looks promising, with everyone making all the right noises - but then they always do before a new release!

I still can't watch it cos it makes me irrationally angry. Gambit. *sigh*

Ah Gambit. Hah. I am fairly optimistic for this...the stills I've seen are looking good (they seem to be along the lines of the less clothing on Jackman the better approach heh)

(P.S. Take a look at Arrow Mouse - it's DCs Green Arrow - looks promising, also it has the GREATEST workout scene ever...you will LOVE, I promise)

It's worth it.

Putting asside all the eye-candy for the girlies (Mrs Perp goes off into a world of her own when she sees it), from a story point of view, acting etc it is pretty well done. As a direct replacement for Smallville, it wipes the floor with it easily.

The piccies do look very good!

Back to X Men, I'm kinda annoyed they're doing another Wolverine film. How many people are asking for a Gambit one? Freaking loads. And Wolverine annoys me. :(

Well I'm still blanking X3 from my mind for the way they treated every character! Honestly Hugh Jackman looks as though he'd rather be anywhere than there.

Mouse - from all I've seen about what they are doing with this new Wolverine film - if they do it right - it could be superb; X-Men First Class 2 looks promising as well, so if those two do really well at the box office, there might be interest in more spinoffs - there is chance for Gambit yet!

For me, Wolverine just isn't Wolverine without the Mask. Its Iconic! However in this day and age yellow is out of the question, since everything is 'dark this dark that', something along the lines of the suit and mask below would be awesome.

I don't hold out much hope. I mean, why do all the sequels instead of an origins film for one of the most popular characters? Why, Perp, why?

I agree Yog-Sothoth, the costume/mask would be great. Maybe when/if they reboot the franchise we'll get costume clad X-Men rather than leather.

Mouse - I was reading something a few weeks ago, it might be promising on the Gambit front, but maybe not in the near future.

Just consider how they cut Angel out...there would be no X-men if Angel wasn't there, he helped set it up! and Ms. Marvel? Where the hell did she go hey, Don't want no mixing with phoenix or whoever they made her -_-

Angel appeared in X3 (Not a very good part, but it was important), but then virtually across the board the characters were given short shrift, unless you were Wolverine... and even then Jackman did not seem to be enjoying it.

Hopefully they'll take a deep breath and treat First Class as a reboot rather than a prequel and we'll get to see all the characters again.

Just realised better

Yes, but if you look at the comics, Angel isn't just a random example he helps form the original team -_- but I get very peeved about things like that (like Ant-man and Wasp not being in the Avengers) and it makes me grump, but I can still try and find the good stuff in the films, even if there wasn't a mask or yellow X in sight

Oh definitely. I loved the first two X-Men movies - I think as far as scenes going, the opening moments of X1 are stupendous, Magneto being dragged into Auschwitz and the guards struggling with one little boy and the gates buckling....

Makes you wonder what could have been done with the cancelled Magneto project.

And as to Angel being dropped as an original member, yeah that was a major disappointment, the fact that Beast was missing too and the way the casually killed Cyclops off in the third film still leaves me cold.

As much as I must bow to the purists who know far more than I do about Wolverene and who can't stand Jackman, the guy is a better actor than ANY American actor I can think of. That might now be saying much, of course. Think: Les Mis. I also do not agree that he plays the same person in every part he takes, any more than any leading actor. They have to have a presence, and if you examine the work of any actor, to some degree they play the same persona. Can anyone name ANY great, American actors today ... who do not have at least one foot in the grave?

Angel is in X3. He's too young as a character in x3 for him to be in First Class.
Ms Marvel? um... i'm sure you mean Marvel Girl... Ms. Marvel is a kree-powered super-woman-esque from whom comic Rogue gained super strength, invulnerability, a 6th Sense for danger (spidey-sense essentially) and flight. VERY different character.

Considering also that Cyclops and Jean are in the trilogy, they couldn't have been in the prequel... they'd be practically foetuses in 1962... (if conceived at all)... even Famke and she's pretty old.

the problem is he's essentially an unknown outside of comic circles. he can only be the side-kick to another character - a'la Wolverine Origins. As awesome and comic-nerd popular as Gambit is, he's just not a top tier character. He's no wolverine, he's no Captain America, heck he's not even a Cyclops.

Right, so. Anybody actually watched this film? Doesn't seem to be a great deal said about it other than this pre-release chat.

I got it for Christmas (I know, I know, I hate Wolverine but it's X-Men, ok? I had to watch it) and I've just watched it this evening.

I actually thought it was ok, although I still don't really like Wolverine. And there were only three mutants in the entire film, so that was disappointing. Especially as I've never heard of Viper (I did like her sloughing though, that was pretty cool, though technically her hair shouldn't have come off), or the other lady.

I didn't really get why the old dude turned out to be evil. Wolverine saved his life, so he becomes old and turns evil. Eh? Also, how many shots are we going to have where Wolvie gets a slash to the face, then turns to face camera while the cuts heal? Gah! Also, also... there was one bit where matey with the arrows stabs Wolverine through the chest, there's no mark on Wolverine's shirt one moment but he turns around and there's suddenly a mark. And I never spot bloopers usually. How did the people editing the film not notice that one?

Surely, after Wolverine's claws got cut off, they would've actually had to pull them out before he could've grown new bone ones?

They're just niggles, I guess. Pretty good. But a Gambit film would've been better. ;)
