Discussion - February 2011 - 75 Word Challenge

I think anything that adds to your story or explains it would be against the spirit (and probably The Law) of the challenges.

I understood your story fine, though, Scott. I think it's perfectly clear.

You could raise the question again after the end of voting to find out if anyone didn't get it?

My understanding is that the writer shouldn't get involved in any discussion that explains the story (a line I think has been stepped across a couple of times recently), until voting has finished. Readers are allowed to discuss or speculate on meanings as much as they like.

My apologies! I don't usually comment on entries but in this case I was responding to the question raised by PM's critique. Sorry!

I wouldn't worry about it. I think most people understood that anyway.

(when I started in the challenges, my first 75 worder ended with someone jumping down a well. There was a discussion going on and I said: 'At least no one died in my story.' and then suddenly wondered if the story had been ambiguous and if people might, actually, have thought that the character was killing himself... and for the rest of the challenge I felt awful and guilty and scared someone would come and stamp on me... In retrospect, I don't think the story was ambiguous at all.)

I wonder though - if you hyperlinked, would you include in your count just the word that was hyperlinked, the words within the hyperlink itself, or the entire contents of the page which was hyperlinked to?

This is exactly why rules can't cover every situation and instead it should be a battle to the death between contestants to see who has the best story, like in the old Star Trek episode "The Cage".

Although I guess they probably weren't fighting over a 75 word story.

EDIT: Sorry for the double post - I did it before thinking. I haven't slept in about 24 hours.

Beyond Jupiter he awaited her, eternally.

"Him?!" I'll kill myself -- and you.

Oh, four.

"Your heart? Ewww. Drippy."

Love transcending toothache.

Well, I haven't looked at any entries, (so I'm not discouraged from posting), and I haven't caught up with the discussion, either (so I'm not discouraged from... erm... discussing...?) Now I've posted I can enter the discussion.

Ah, right... mini transgressions... maybe I won't contribute, other than to say that I've posted.;)

"You play a dangerous game Mr Bond. Posting before checking to see if any entries before you are similar".

That is my biggest fear Boneman, twice I've had to choose an alternate story because another post was very much like my own.

However, this month's theme allows for a broad scope this time, every tale is completely different. But you'll discover this once you've read the other tales.

And here one comes...

I've removed, but not deleted the relevant part of the post. If you haven't got another copy, David, PM me after the voting's over, and I'll put it back in another post...

Oops! Sorry about that. What was that I said on another thread about learning as I go?

And here I was, telling Starbeast people not reading the rules didn't just happen in retail. I'll do anything to be proved right.
