Before Watchmen

Rucka is the man.

Even from my small knowledge of the pre-52, I have some disagreements with what they've done (and off page regarding their apparently 'non-existent' women readers). But I'm getting Batwoman and Scott Snyder's Batman every month and both have been getting rave reviews with each issue (in fact I only started getting Batman at issue seven when the comicsphere was all "O.M.G, this month's Batman is phenomenal" and I had to get it because I dislike being out of the loop :D)

Anyhoo. Today was the Ozymandias issue. The one I've been waiting for since I heard the news about this whole series.

And yeah, I'm biased, but I LOVED it. I've read it twice and I only picked it up at lunchtime. And hell yeah to Adrian's implied fluid sexuality. I like when things like that are included.

About three pages in I kept thinking "I know this art, I know it, where..?" then clicked that Jae Lee did the Dark Tower graphic novel art. Back then I wasn't so much into comics, but now my appreciation for comic art has grown a great deal and man, does his style suit the Ozymandias issues! In fact, all the artists have been brilliant picks for each character.

Yeah, definitely enjoyed today's issue.

Jae Lee is one of my all time favourite artists, it is a shame he is not a little more prolific.

Quite a few years ago he wrote and drew a series called Hellshock, it was one of the best things I have ever read. Unfortunately he just stopped producing it, more due to him than the lack of sales and it was one of the biggest tragedies I've seen.

Of course another great tragedy was me sending the original issues to a friend in the post - and they got lost, never did get them back and the compensation was pitiful.

Oh dear :(
A couple (possibly 4-5) months ago I visited a shop in Plymouth (Final Frontier) and aske dthem to keep aside a copy of the new Before Watchment comics, I bought some there and then and intended to go back more often to pick up the new copies.
Well today we went back and I walked in and gave my name and they pulled out 22 individual comics for me to buy, I didn't realise there would be so many of them!!!

Of course I forked out for them all, but not sure if I should have done. Oh well, plenty of reading to get through now.

I've still got them all but not actually got around to reading them yet, although I'm working my way through the comic to be read pile so I am hoping to get to them soon.

MB - you should have said, I don't mind picking them up for you and posting them to save you a trip once in a while (unless you are coming down here on purpose). I generally go into Plymouth and the comic shop once a week. Just not Final Frontier.

Is there another comic shop in Plymouth? I had only found the one, not that we are there that often.

There are two at the moment, but the other one is not on one of the main streets. Still very central though!

Piling up nicely on my shelf, still not got round to starting them, think they'll all have arrived by the time I get around to them!

I've just read my first complete limited series, Nite Owl, and felt that it was entertaining, well drawn - but then with a creative team based around J Michael Straczynski, Andy Kubert and his late, great father Joe you would expect nothing less.

But it was nothing new, I felt they were filling in the gaps perhaps, but just the ones our imaginations had already been queued in on by Moore.

I'm not saying they are not worth a read, there are some nice twists, and I really enjoyed it and am looking forward to those that follow.

this is crap

comic book companies are desperate

these money junkies ran out of options to fill their pockets

watchmen is not supposed to have prequels, and that's is it

I would be outraged if these Idiots messed with my works

As long as readers follow characters and not creators these kind of comics will always be there. The companies are taking their easy money where they can get it.

I choose spend my money on Alan Moore,Frank Miller and other modern greats instead of this. Watchman is nothing to me with the two creators behind it.

Its the buyers market and i respectfully disagree with the need for these comics but show respect to other readers here and many others who wanted to read this.
