Scalzi: 9 Scifi Films You Should See That You (Probably) Haven't

I have yet to see either version of Solaris, as the book convinced me I really didn't want to.

Oh Metryq, please do take a look at Solaris - the original version. It is a very slow, haunting, though provoking film and very beautiful. The book bored me silly.

I don't remember the remake. I've seen it, but don't remember a thing about it.
 
I've only seen one of the Ghost In The Shell sequels, but it failed to hit that electrifying mix of a great plot and an exploration of something deep and meaningful the original had. Perhaps it is because I first saw GITS when I was 16 and it really challenged me

The stand alone series are worth watching, but for different reasons (I probably need to give them another run through at some point)

I'll have to take a look at the others though. From reading the comments on the filmcritic site, I'd have to say my vote for 10th film also goes to Gattaca, and though 12 monkeys is cool, I think Pitch Black should also get a shout out as a consistently underappreciated film
