I believe this already happened when Sandor saved Loras from Gregor at the tourney's end. Sandor fends him off while holding himself back with seeming ease.... draw your own conclusions!

That's a good point. Greggor was really trying to kill Sandor, or anyone else who may have gotten in his way, and Sanrod held him off. I don't thing sandor was trying to kill Greggor though, so I would assume that he was only concentrating on holding him back. he would have fought harder if he was trying to kill the mountain.

i figure the hound kills the mountain, but sustains a mortal wound in the process, and so goes out Beowulf style!

Arsten, I was just playing devil's advocate after seeing the massive support for the Hound. I like to think my mind-blowing analysis had something to do with the shortening gap in the poll.

Either way, these two are great characters, and their brutal style of combat is a nice alternative to the more graceful Knight of Flowers, Jaime, Selmy and Syrio styles.

Sandor defending himself against Gregor is different than Sandor actually trying to get inside Gregor's guard and do some damage. Sandor also knew that the fight would be stopped almost immediately.

Also, I don't think that Gregor just flies into blind rages in every fight. He was enraged by Loras' trick, but he was in full control while commanding the Lannister left against Roose Bolton and when he fought Oberyn Martell. And remember Sandor's memories of his burning at Gregor's hands? Gregor did not hit and attack indiscriminately, he methodically and puposefully burned Sandor's face.

not sure if he was in total control during the fight with oberyn martell. martell just made an error born of vanity...but it was too late for the mountain to do anything but get some revenge.
