Recommendation please for bloodthirsty sci fi apocalyptic epic!!

Just catching up on Falling Skies on tv and I guess something similar to the storyline here, but much better. Falling Skies has a good premise but for some reason seems poorly executed and just doesn't grab me at all. Nowhere near as good as Game of Thrones - in fact it's not as good as Spielberg's Taken.

To be pedantic, it doesn't actually feature an alien race who want to destroy humanity. It's certainly apocalyptic and has a lot of action in it so you might well like it anyway. However, Hamilton's Commonwealth Saga does feature an alien race who want to destroy humanity.

Isn't Night's Dawn science fantasy? Doesn't it have something to do with the souls of the dead coming back to kill everyone?

I'd second the Revelation Space series. I'm hoping that Reynolds returns there soon.

I have to point out that Starship Troopers was published in 1959, well before the Vietnam War.

Fair cop. You are quite right. Imprecise wording on my part, fuelled by a few glasses of wine no doubt.
I would defend the basic point that FW is something of a riposte to the militaristic sentiments of ST.

I dont see why it matter if a book is pro military or against military, wars. It depends only on how good the book is. I dont agree with Heinlein politically but he used his naval background to make the marine story in future world, the soldier way of life come alive well. Powerful military SF action wise and story, ideology wise is all that matter to me.

I have Forever War and i dont care that i might agree more with Haldeman POV about militaristic sentiments, wars. I dont see why you should review, analyze the authors, their views. The fiction books, texts is the only thing we should judge.

You can be crazy right wing military nut if you are as good as Heinlein in Military SF for all i care !

Sorry for the rant but im a believer of new criticism school of the author is dead and we only analyze the literary text.

Not for someone who wants a "bloodthirsty sci fi apocalyptic epic"...

Oh yes, on the subject of bloodthirsty apocalyptic sci-fi apocalyptic epic, maybe try something set in the Warhammer 40,000 universe? I'd recommend anything by Dan Abnett, because he seems to be the only one who can write actually decent literature in Warhammer 40,000.
