Song of Ice and Fire novels...ranked

yikes, i wouldn't have found it. I would have thought it would have Ned's name in it. Nice job :)

Every crackpot theory thread you've created has the subject in the thread title EXCEPT that one. So I figured that one must be the one about Eddard ;).

interesting idea, though if it were true, i would dislike it. i prefer when dead means dead, and bringing ned back would be like the excesses of superhero resurrection for me.

taking it on its merits of plausibility, though, i think the biggest evidence against this theory comes from the show. if i'm not mistaken, GRRM wrote the episode where ned loses his head, and it's pretty clear that the guy up there is ned, and that he loses his head.

the show does not equal the books, but i can't imagine GRRM would have approved the script and direction if it had deviated this much from his plans.

The way the epsiode played out definitely decreases the already small liklihood of this theory being true, although, if it was a Faceless Man................

But I love them all like children. How do you decide who is your favorite child? Seriously though, I likely enjoyed ADWD more than most. I loved all the players in Meereen and I think all the pieces are place for a grand resolution whatever it may be.

The fact that there were so many new characters that the readers have not connected with yet may be part of the dissatisfaction for some. Plus, I read all the books straight through, and my expectations weren't jaded by waiting decades for the next installation. I think that that may have also severely impacted many impressions.

A Storm of Swords- great book overall, and TRW was the single most gut kicking event I've ever encountered in all my years of reading.

A Game of Thrones-absolutely ground breaking for me. I don't remember ever reading something done with POV chapters before. I could actually swap AGOT with ASOS, but gun to my head ASOS is slightly better

A Clash of Kings- fine book, just not at the level of ASOS and AGOT

ADWD- I'm liking it a lot more the second time around, but the almost all of Dany's chapter seem a waste of space, and Tyrion's were not all that much better. I am also unhappy with how little progress GRRM made in this book. I loved the bran, Arya and jon chapters. More of those and fewer of Dany and Tyrion would have probably had me rate the book above ACOK

AFFC- It took me a month before I could move forward with this one. It felt too scattered and seemed to spend too much time in Dorne and the iron Islands.

I more or less agree with this one. AFFC was just too tedious to read and ADWD simply wasn't balanced enough. ACOK was pretty good, better than ADWD and AFFC, but just not as great as AGOT and ASOS. Whenever I reread the books, I kinda feel sad after reading ASOS.

I am assuming you mean (by the bolded part) that you enjoyed aDwD more than most other people, and not more than most of the other books. if so, I agree with you whole heartedly and for the same reasons. I too read the books straight through, so I wasn't made to wait YEARS for that book, so it didn't seem so slow.

I rate the books the same as the Imp (Storm, Game, Clash, Dance and Feast) and for pretty much the same reasons.

Dance comes before Feast simply because of Arya and the faceless men. I love Arya and the faceless men really intrigue me.
