Creating original artwork and music for books

Aty - Beautiful. Colour me consumed by envy ;P

Galacticdefender - me too. Folders within folders within folders... scraps of poems, pictures of people, landscapes, buildings and plants, references to songs and movies or tv shows or other books... it's chaotic, but it works hehe!

I came across a portrait photo of someone whose complex expression caught a character of mine absolutely perfectly
It's amazing how one image can grab you like that. I had a similar experience with a random google search, and I still look back to it when I feel I'm losing hold on the character's mien.

I quite often base mine off characters from TV shows, so I have a visual image and personality to attribute them to - of course I take a bit of creative freedom to them and switch things up a bit so that they aren't mirrored characters put in a different world/story. In my current WIP, once such character is inspired by Rumplestiltskin from Once Upon a Time.

It could be cool as a personal thing, but please don't ever send this stuff along to the publisher, trust me, all it does is get your submission round filed that much faster.

Most definitely. Not something to send while querying, but fun to dream!

Oh, erm, i have a lovely picture of one of my mc half naked in my office. He was the male model in the avon catalogue and spot on. I almost changed my alligiance and eternal devotion from the mc to him on the basis of it.... :)

Springs, I admire your drive to develop real-life characters for your work. Your extensive research sounds exhausting. ;)

Not in a million years! If I do...

The agent: What the-- is that Daniel Radcliffe & Emma Watson...!?

Bye now.

So... NO! :D

I just Googled Avon male model. There was a pretty one, but I'm reckoning you'd go for one of the, uh, craggier models.

Oh, as for music for books (going back now but I was thinking of this the other day), I can't make music myself but I do hear a piece of music and get a little dramatic montage from my books in my head. Sometimes.

More than sometimes. Happens to me a lot...just the other day I was listening to a song thinking it would be a great montage moment for if my book ever got made into a film. Stupid brain.

Thanks, alc, I just had a trailer for TBM pop into my head complete with trailer-voiceover-guy! Heh.

^ Well then I'm the crazy one because I have trailer music/sound montages for my book! :D

I can upload it so you can listen to it later :D

If my book gets published, I will definitely make an animation-like trailer no matter how hard it would be :")

I like to make planets from my scifi universe in Photoshop and I render the surface landscapes in Terragen 1 or 2. Sometimes I'll go back and put moons in the sky in photoshop, and I'm trying to find a good way to put realistic looking buildings/cities in my landscapes.

I also attempt to draw spacecraft, weapons, and aliens from my setting. I am generally terrible at aliens, alright at spaceships, and halfway decent at weapons. I would absolutely love to be able to draw better though. It would provide an awesome way to see things from my stories visually.
