Thanks to Perp and SB for the kind words AND shortlistings.

Having been 'away' from the tribulations of the challenges in recent months, I was cheered to hell and back for the listing from :-

ratsy, Starbeast and Parson

(Apologies to any I missed)

However, when I saw the vote from Ursa, you could have beaten me stupid (not far to go now) with a baseball bat and I would still have been over the moon.

Thanks Ursa.

You are emensely welcomed TheEndIsNigh, keep up the good work.

Congratulations Cul.

I enjoyed that its inherent cynicism was delightfully couched in humor. Few people really do that in a way I truly enjoy, but you are one of them.

Glad you enjoyed it. Now to repeat such a feat!

Time for an explanation of my entry....

As The Spurring Platty worked out, my story/poem (Life? No Bones About It...), was an acrostic: the first letter of each line spell out:
Not as we know it, Jim
The word, Bones, in the title was meant to remind people of ST:TOS; I thought using the word, Spock**, would make spotting the acrostic too easy (and it isn't as if Mr Spock ever spoke the words during the series...).

** - Besides, Bones is easy to include than Spock.

I thought Bones' catch phrase was "dammet Jim I'm a doctor not a..."

Thank you again SB, truly honored :D

Too clever by half! If I'm to spot such things I need statements telling me that there is something there. Well done.

I thought Bones' catch phrase was "dammet Jim I'm a doctor not a..."
That's why "Spock" would have been a bigger hint (even though the character never said that phrase in the series).

But given that only TSP saw the hidden meaning, perhaps I should have used a bigger hint.

Ursa, that is just brilliant, and as already noted I missed it completely.

Just to confirm mine, as monsterchic already stated and I'm sure most people got, it was the story of Prometheus the Titan of Greek legend, who first created life and then stole fire from the Gods and gave it to the poor little mortals.

Zeus was not too happy and chained him to a mountain, where every day a little sparrow* would come down and tear out his liver, consume it, and then when he had fully healed, would do it all over again the next morning.

Those classic gods, eh?

*It was in fact an Eagle, but Sparrow sounds so much better. You'll never look at them in the garden the same way now.

But given that only TSP saw the hidden meaning, perhaps I should have used a bigger hint.

You know, I did actually see some of that in the first letters of the lines, noting the "JIM" part and going back to check them, but somehow I couldn't make the jump through the line breaks and it came out not making any sense. The "ASWEKN" part lost me. I'm going to claim illness, though I wasn't sick yet at that point. At least, not as I know it. :D

I would like to mention that my own story, written on the 23rd, was about my brother, Johnny, who died on February 23rd last year. Oddly, it didn't start out that way, as I was initially calling the "kid" Timmy in my mind, but it wasn't until I changed him to Johnny that it started to come together. The idea was that, coming out of one life, we go through the Escher-port to find the ship of our next life. Grandpa and Mom were waiting for him there, and he and Mom went on to another life together while Grandpa stayed there to wait for the rest of us.

I wish I could be an artist, to get down the picture that is in my mind for that image.

Very clever Mr Bond, I didn't notice. Then I looked at your entry just now and I was stunned. D'oh!

Thanks for the mentions / short lists Lenny, Talysia, Abernovo, Perp, Phyrebrat, Hex, hopewrites, Starbeast and TDZ. :)
