I really liked all of the stories this month, and I had a tough time creating a Short List, so after many hours of painfully removing names, I came up with the list you see above, a FINALIST LIST.

Then I had to decide on one to vote for. My choice had been floating around in my mind for days, and my vote went to TALYSIA.

What stood out for me in her story, was that even though her character was small and had a little magic power, she was full of courage and wanted to help combat against evil, that made my heart glow with goodness. What her story said to me was this: "Even the smallest of us, can make a difference."

Howdy,
Lenny and Johnnyjet, thank you for the shortlistings.
Perp Man, thanks for the kind review, if it made you laugh it's as good as a vote to me.
Azzagorn, a top 3, thank you very much.
Starbeast, glad that you enjoyed it and thank you for the listing.

Victoria Silverwolf, cynical, you say, as often as not our heros turn out to have feet of clay and crumble before our eyes, we are all human, well most of us, so look for the humor, it's bound to show up in most everything I write. Thank you for the review.

Oh wow, I come back to find two more votes! Many and effusive thanks to Azzagorn and Abernovo for those!

Thanks also for the special mention, reiver33 -- I am honored!

And while I'm at it, thanks are in order for the reviews, Starbeast and Perp, and for the mentions, honorable mentions, and shortlists by Talysia, Tactical Loco, AJB, Lenny, johnnyjet, Starbeast and jastius. Dancing in the streets shall ensue. Well, as soon as the mud dries up, anyway. :D

I've gotten it down to a shortlist and a shorter list, but I'm going to sleep on those and see what materializes. It's quite the decision, as always.

Thanks for the listings, johnnyjet, Perp and jastius. :)

Honourable mentions to:-

Starbeast: Topical, factual and funny.
Mosaix: Wrong on so many levels. However, I had to laugh.
TDZ: Nice updating and its nice to think that the modern woman/hero wouldn't just have her head turned by 'trappings'.

The vote went to Brev. Hero and villain personified.

Thanks to Lenny and TEIN for the votes, and to johnnyjet, Perp and Starbeast for the mentions. You've put a smile on my face, and a spring in my step - :)

Top three for me ....

Glisterspeck - just for the pulverised finger bone bullets
Juliana - great last line
Star beast - as normal great craziness in the form of Harvey's superhero daughter.

Vote winner - reiver33 - it's true, you can't have one without the other.

Thanks for the mentions so far folks.

So many good stories this month. (Actually I'm not surprised by this.) Really enjoyed the entries by: The Judge - Culhwch - Glen - reiver33 - Glisterspeck - Lenny - ratsy and Starbeast.

But, making the short list were:
Juliana - The Thin Line: Great concept, and well constructed dialogue.

Hex - Unwilling villain: Yes, yes, yes!

Phyrebrat - Pirate Radio: Ticked the boxes of Genre/Theme. And, I have a "thing" for Merfolk.

TheDustyZebra - Impossible Relationships: The Humour flows right through this. You captured her voice perfectly.

Bob Senior - FOR A FEW BUCKS MORE: A very human truth, last line sold it to me.

In the end I went for Hex's delightful tale of childhood dreams with a dark twist. It was well constructed and resonant; I was with you all the way.

Thanks for the mentions Brev, Starbeast and Jastius! I hope to reread all the stories and vote soon. I am in the beautiful rocky mountains for the week. I am looking out the window at a mountain right now. Going to have to write today; with all the fresh air, sun and views I am sure to write some good stuff!
