A question for the ladies

Strappy tops - does she need to wear a bra? If so are we talking fuller figure? Solid supporting bras have wide straps which need covering up.

While I try to keep out of her underwear :) I do have a much later scene where she is wearing a sports bra under her super hero costume (because, like sport, I assume super heroing requires some practical support).

There is a minor character who makes an offensive remark that only makes sense if she does need to wear a bra...

And moving away from all the practical details to a couple of characterisation question.

So they are people who like each other - they've got to know each other for a while - and since the whole dressing up thing is unexpected from what you've said, that means neither of them is a dressy person.
Why does he suddenly dress up? Why is it not just cleanest T-shirt and jeans?

Why does she think "ooh dearie me, I must dress up too" NOT "he's dressed up, I didn't think he was like that at all, mm, going off him now".

The idea is, she thinks he's gone to a lot of trouble for her (she didn't even know he owned a shirt with a collar, apart from his school uniform shirts). She's thinking he'll think she's not serious about the whole more-than-friends thing.

And then, after dressing up, she finds that his mum had decided to wash everything he wanted to wear and he was wearing what was left over and it was a total accident. :D

He-he, Montero ;)
Here's a pic from a site called 'latest tops for college girls' - that should answer several of your questions
snip
Go do some field research - you might find it interesting

Ta

Sort of. :D;)

Field research - got plenty of fields. Right now they're all really muddy. With poop.
No grass growing.
Drat. :D

(And I just discovered I am not allowed six images in a post, so had to snip one from the quote as well as the picture. There you go. Live and learn.)

Not a bad idea. :) If he has a choice between the t-shirt with the won't-come-off food stains, the t-shirt with holes in it, or the clean shirt with a collar (that his Mum just ironed for him and won't let him go on his first date without wearing it)..

They're both trying too hard. It gets better when they start to relax and just be themselves.

P.S. On the subject of bras -- the story is set in 2016. Maybe by then sundress technology will have advanced enough to have the support of a bra built-in, eliminating the need to hide those bra straps.

There are dresses with built in support, at least in the larger cup sizes where it is necessary ;) but if you want to wear a bra with a non supportive dress but don't want the straps showing...clear straps or no straps at all! dun dun duuuun...no straps can get awkward though, especially when running...

Many sundresses have a soft cloth strap which is an inch or two wide' which, more or less, hides the bra strap.

Meanwhile, I never saw a modern girl swoon just because her bra strap was visible.

That Victorian thang has been gone a long, long time. Likewise the alleged hyper modesty of the 1950's.

Edit: Oh, Dear. That made me remember the mid 80's when all of the young things were sporting the Camel-toe " 'Lip' hugger " jeans.

What the hell was that all about?

Eugh those jeans are coming back..and as my bf says "those f-ing shorts!" the ones which look like someone has been given a massive wedgie...

I bought a sundresses with built in support. It must have shrunk in the car though because it was two inches shorter when I got it home and tried it on in my mirror. Now its a top.

By the word "sundress" I would understand a dress for bathing in the sun.
As they're probably dating during the evening, it would sound real weird if reading she was wearing a sundress.

Why doesn't she just find her best dress, no matter what.
Does the dress really have to be described in details ??
- and what if her best dress is a smart (clean) shirt to wear with her jeans ??
