i voted almost exclusively sci-fi but realise that's a bit of a mistake as i've read the GoT books, and relatively recently KJ Parker's Engineer series and Rothfuss' Name of the wind. to be honest the latter two, whilst generally well written, have put me off fantasy a bit.

I voted "almost exclusively F". These things change over time, though, but of the last 10 or so books I guess 9 were fantasy, and I suppose about 9 of the next 10 will be. Sometimes I may read a historical book, or something completely random. It was a long time since I read any SF. I'm going to try to find some post-apocalyptic stuff in the not too far distant future.

Again like most, it varies over time. I seem to go through phases of wanting to read fantasy after fantasy, then go through phases of sci fi. But on the whole, I reckon I read, and perhaps enjoy, fantasy slightly more.

Seems to be tilting in favor of SF...which actually surprises me, as I've gotten into more conversations about fantasy on here than SF.

Forgot to comment on this awhile back but seeing the swing reminds me - most SF/F polls I've seen lately start out with SF being well ahead or at least ahead but then usually swing back to F taking a slight lead and holding it. SF still has a lead for now, but it's diminished and will probably slip. Fantasy people are just slow. :D

It's really interesting for me to hear people's reading habits, and also about how they've evolved, ebbed and flowed over the years!

Its natural to evolve, i follow prose styles, authors with certain style, craft than genres really. 80% of the times i think i havent read this author in a while before i think ooh i havent read a good historical or good noir in a month.

I can read anything really in genres, the only reason i dont read more fantasy or historical or horror than SF is top 10-15 fav authors 6,7 of them are SF authors.

Its good to keep track of your evolution in a thing Goodreads called Most Read Authors. You can see there which genres you read most. If i have read 28 Vance, 26 Richard Stark/Westlake etc

I'm about 50/50, mainly because when I finish a book, I want t read something completely different. I don't even know why... maybe so I don't keep pondering the storylines of the previous book and get them muddled up as I'm so forgetful =P
