Discussion Thread - SEVENTY-FIVE WORD WRITING CHALLENGE May 2013

This is exactly what I am getting at. Why do so many of us see only the negative side of our legacy. I'm all for celebrating the good things that have been handed down, and working to make those bad things better. --- I'm not a Pollyanna. I think that there are a lot of ugly things out there, but neither am I a nihilist. I've read the last chapter and good wins!

Well, I am glad that good wins. I think that on the road to good winning, a lot of bad things happen to a lot of good people. We are surrounded by news and feeds of bad things happening, it is far easier for the mind to go to that side. For you I am sure you hear a lot of bad and a lot of good as well...People probably are constantly sharing their inspirational stories with you so that can be uplifting. I don't really get many "feel good" stories from the world as I am sure many don't. We have to create our own "feel good" story and I am working on that with my own life and that will be my legacy I suppose.

But until then, I will have to dream of implanting my memories into an android ;)

Thanks Perp and Victoria! (Is that my story?)

Getting high drama into 75 words is not easy as I've been learning over the last year (I blame alchemist, he recommended this competition to me - I'm a 75 word junkie now!).

Well, that's my legacy sorted.

With not much more than 10 hours to go (2359 GMT is 0059 BST), we still seem to be missing a few regulars.

So situation normal, then....

Well said!

I do hear my share of both sorts of stories.

I agree that we have to be at work in our own life. It seems to me that we get what we look for. If you think everyone is untrustworthy and unsavory; Guess what kind of people you find. Then again if you believe that everyone has something good in them, and that something better is possible; Guess what you find.

Calvinistic and Optimistic :p:)

Thank you, Starbeast and Perp, for your lovely reviews. :)

It's funny Parson, because of this little discussion I had a good talk with my wife about viewing the world and being positive vs negative. Then we went on to talk about personal legacies and what we want them to be. It was a good, fruitful conversation. My wife believes that there are negative energies constantly being directed at people from an outside force. Whether one believes its from satan or just the ying and yang of the universe. It was an interesting thought. Kind of sad to think that the world would be being attacked spiritually constantly but it would explain a lot. As if gravity isn't hard enough on my shoulders hey?

Ursa major -- an effective twist ending with a touch of schadenfreude

stormcrow -- offers an intimate view of the vastness of interstellar travel

jastius -- sadly poetic and imaginative

Mary Faerie -- an unexpected note of hope in a terrible situation

The Judge -- a dark and multi-faceted fable

Hmm. I don't think we need an outside source sending negative energies. I've worked with enough people to think most folk manage fine all by themselves...

Anyhow, mine's done. And still nearly five hours to go. I think. My maths isn't up to it.

As to the earlier question whether we later-posters are polishers or procrastinators, I definitely used to be the former and I'd spend days honing a story. Then HareBrain kept winning with pieces he wrote while washing up (I'll leave others to wonder why underwear always figured so prominently as a result) and I've since gone with a can't-beat-'em-join-'em attitude. So now it's sheer not-getting-round-to-it until the last minute. Probably because I don't do the washing up if I can help it.

I tend to try to jump in as quickly as possible, and I do not read the contributions of others until I have posted my own. (This carries the risk that I might inadvertently post something similar to what has already been posted, but it also allows me to avoid being influenced by previous entries.)
