Matt Smith Quits Doctor Who

I offered my services but I don't think they took me seriously... :p :p hehehe

They may get somebody very cool, let's hope so.

A question from a novice Who-watcher: By my count, the new Doctor will be #12, which is the limit for Time Lords. But this can't be the end can it? Surely some retconning is in order?

Assuming they don't just come up with a perfectly valid reason why his count is reset.

Extra regenerations are allowed (cf the Master living for ages after Logopolis).

And in the Sarah Jane Adventures when asked the Matt Smith Doctor replied 517 (or something like that)... probably just a flippant reply but might have been laying the groundwork for something.

(As a way out idea, he absorbed a load of regenerations from the other Time Lords at the end of the Time War in the same way River gave up her regenerations to save him)

I'm sure they could retcon the Eighth Doctor (Paul McGann). IMHO, one single 89 minute TV movie doesn't make a proper Doctor.

And if you're going to count McGann, what about Peter Cushing? Far more time on screen (large and small) as the Doctor, but regarded as non-canon for the count of regenerations.

there was a picture of the new doctor out.. he is a blonde curley haired guy that is wearing a very brightly coloured suit.. i really hope that is a joke.. he looks like russell crow with a perm just escaped from barnum and bailey in the clown car.
:(
oh the humanity.

Um...that sounds familiar...like this?

I like the idea of revisiting Paul McGann I though he made an awesome Doctor. The Movie was ropey but I thought he was good.

Apparently McGann wanted to be (or was at least available and willing) in the 50th anniversary special, but his services were not required.

Ecclestone, meanwhile, was asked but declined.

Most of them wanted to. I'm a bit disappointed not to have most of them back. I just hope it is less dull than the recent series.

Am I the only one here who thinks that now would be the right time to call it a day? There's been a pretty definite decline in quality over the last two or three seasons and I can't see it changing much. I'd hate to see it reduced to the state it was in when it first disappeared from our screens.

Oooh, that's an interesting choice; I didn't even know they were in the running! The rumours I had heard were for young actors (or, at least, actors who come across as young) in the vein of Smith, which worried me slightly.

I reckon I can get behind this Doctor,
particularly as he strikes me as the type to be more from the Eccleston mould
.

So the latest favourite at the betting shops is apparently
Peter Capaldi
!
I can already imagine him now, going all Malcolm Tucker on the Daleks.
:p

Heh, yes, my friend said similar yesterday.

Also, I've just seen something that I'm not sure is real, but...apparently there's going to be a show on Sunday that will reveal the new Doctor, hosted by Zoe Ball??
