In gaming/convention culture (at least here in the US), sexism and mistreatment are pretty nasty at times. There was one account I read by a woman who as propositioned in an elevator, another woman who was grabbed constantly by men because she was wearing a Star Trek Next Gen outfit. One guy actually responded to the Trek outfit posting with something akin to, "You're all just c**k-teases, and you go to these conventions to make men hard on purpose."
Judging by Wendig's follow-up post and the responses he got from guys who still don't get it, we still have a long way to go.
Edit: Adding a link. This ins't genre-specific, but perhaps it will show what some women face on a daily basis "out there" in the world. Kind of disheartening read.
