Discussion -- 300 Word Challenge #10

April? ;) Or is that part of the topic?
Takes out fife and gives rendition of seasonal song 'yankie doodle'.

So the theme is not "Bird sitting on metal thingie in April"?

Darn. Back to the drawing board....

And here I thought Mr. Major had foresightedly placed a crow in that photo so as to have the necessary bird near . ( as in having to consume there of) :D

Stormcrow must have had a say in this!!! Why isnt a rat climbing the fence :)

Foxbat's lovely pic!

(April confused the hell out of me, I thought someone had somehow resurrected an old thread).

Anyone prepared to believe it was a joke...?

No?

Darp!

Well it was one in the morning when I posted it. And there was a "January" in the story post :)eek:), but I did see that in time.

Um... well, that was of course a deliberate mistake to see if anyone actually reads the opening post as they are exhorted to do... ;) (I blame it on short sightedness -- I was adapting the January thread and all the J-ys kind of merged unless I squinted...)

Anyhow, with the advent of the TENTH 300 Word Challenge *drumroll* I thought it about time for some statistics. (I know how much you've missed them!)

To date we've had some 379 entries by 132 members, with 1136 votes from 391 voters (hurrah -- more voters than participants!). Only 8 of us have taken part in all 9 Challenges, another 4 have only missed 1 Challenge, and 6 have missed 2. At the other end of the spectrum, a whopping 60 have only taken part in 1 Challenge, although 13 of that number entered for the first time this year, so we can hope they will return. (Well, we can hope the others return, too, but it's perhaps less likely.)

Hex was the overall winner of last year's Challenges, with 42 votes, with Teresa second on 27, then alchemist and Perpetual Man on 26 each, and reiver33 on 25. This year springs is in the lead on 20 votes, but there are 7 of us snapping at her heels with 10 or more votes apiece, so there's plenty to play for.

The best ever Challenge for new entrants was April 2012 when we had 16 -- it would be good if we could beat that and get 18 this month and bring us up to 150 entrants -- so get speaking to other members and persuade them to join in!

An interesting picture, I'm not sure what it inspires in me, but the first glance gave me an idea, which is always a good start.

I didn't do too badly last year, quite chuffed about that. Thanks for the statistics TJ!

But only 8 of us took part in all challenges? I thought it would be more.

Now, that's a lovely picture...!

Such poise, style, elegance; what more could a chron ask for? :D

Seriously though - it's a great image; my mental cogs are turning already (hear 'em creak?).

...and honestly ratsy, it was beyond my control - it's those damned CCTV cameras, they seem to follow me everywhere!

And you're actually third overall (ie over all 9 Challenges) with 51 votes, so well done you!

But only 8 of us took part in all challenges? I thought it would be more.
I'm pretty sure, but here's where any mistakes will start to show up...

9 Challenges: alchemist, chrispenycate, mosaix, Perpetual Man, me, The Spurring Platty, TheDustyZebra, Ursa major

8 Challenges: Boneman, Hex, Starbeast, Teresa

7 Challenges: Abernovo, Culhwch, Karn, Moonbat, paranoid marvin, springs

We started back in April 2011, and some of our regulars weren't even members then, of course.

Tywin, the thread stays locked until the 10th. Gives people time to ruminate (or sit on their story, get paranoid, rewrite it and then go back to their initial draft).

Please unlock the thread for the challenge, my story (such as it is) is ready to post.

Me too, the picture did the job.

But I'll wait, counting and counting, by hand and machine, making sure I don't fall foul of the rules - or Judge will get me! :D
