Discussion -- 300 Word Challenge #10

Thanks for the votes Glen, mosaix and for the listings/mentions stormcrow, jastius and the Dusty Z.

luigin your story was a haunting tale of innocence seeking to combat tragedy and loss. its clear voice told of a uncomprehending child's determination to right his world. i truly enjoyed it, and you are very welcome.

Not been around much as I've been busy sorting out wedding plans - I've finally lost the single fight - about time I suppose as we've been engaged for 18 years ... lol.
And congratulations on your other work in progress, now coming to fruition and may it turn out to be just as delightful and successful.( for eighteen years- that's a long time to be planning, luigin, must be a very special lady indeed) i wish you every joy and personal happiness on this new stage of your life you are about to embark upon.

"jastius edged in at the end with all the skillful foreshadowing"
Dusty you voted for me? just, like wow! thank you. And skillful foreshadowing? wholly cadoodle there Dusty, thankyou so much... it must be telling all those ghost stories at girl guides campfires coming back to haunt me. :D

and chrispy, thankyou so much for the listing. :)

Thanks for the votes, Luiglin, Moonbat & stormcrow! That's awesome!

And thanks for the short listings by Boneman & TheDustyZebra. That brings the total number of short listings to 8. That might be a record for me.

Goodness me... after Mouse galloped away in the opening furlongs, Victoria Silverwolf and The Judge are coming through on the inside rails, with BigJ just behind them. Are we going to see another photo finish? Last day of voting...

I was away for a week and returned to find I'd garnered a number of votes, which numbed the pain of having to now cook my own food! I can't remember who I thanked before, so a blanket thank you to al those who voted for me, and those who gave my story a mention.

I see an anxious wait for the frontrunners tonight...

Been trying to keep abreast of things but not been around much so here is my speedpost.

My votes went to
Springs:- So magical and bittersweet – right up my street – and I love the time that passes in this tale of the most demanding toy in the world…
Reiver 33:- The concept of this is what sold me but lines like “Rust never sleeps” and ‘My heart beat like clockwork. I was scrap, both human and industrial.’ Are a delight to read.
Johnnyjet:- I am a scarecrowaphile - whatever the correct name for it would be – and it’s nice to see one that is so implacably serene and accepting. (Also the story features my favoured bitter sweetness so I am presold ;))

I’ve not compiled a shortlist because I didn’t have one. Not because the rest were poor, of course, but that I liked the vast majority posted and so this post would have been pages long with names and whys etc.

This has probably been the most prolific challenge in terms of my favoured entries, since I joined a couple years ago. Seems like the juxtaposition of a crow and some old whatsit is very good mental fertiliser!

Another strong showing and some good crow stories, though I have to confess at not being able to understand all of them.

My short list:

alchemist -- ... doomed to repeat it -- very, very funny
Boneman -- The Balance -- simply a great story
chrispenycate -- Mobile deitybase -- weird, but in a good way!
HoopyFrood -- Never to be Told -- a clever interweaving of the two rhymes
johnnyjet -- Scarecrow's Crow -- moving in its simplicity and Scarecrow's acceptance of duty and death
Phyrebrat -- Theodora Sings -- another very moving tale, beautifully written
springs -- Eugenie's promise -- a lovely voice
Tywin -- The Blueprint -- Norse gods and nazis; irresistible!

The first two votes were easy -- Tywin and Boneman both wrote stories which stayed with me from the first (and they got extra points for using the weathervane, too!) -- and after a long cogitation and weighing up of the stories and a throw of the dice my third vote goes to Phyrebrat. And there's a special mention for Glen's true story of The Planet of the Crows...

A crow's thanks for the mentions/shortlistings johnnyjet, Perp, Boneman and TDZ, and Raven-sized thanks for the votes springs, Abernovo, alchemist, TacticalLoco, stormcrow, Chris p, and for the stealth votes HB, Hoopy and Karn, and extra thanks for the lovely words Aber, Tactical, stormcrow.
