Wheel of Time Word Mangling

I think the award goes to... Hoopy. Why did I not get the rest if I got the last part???

And heh. "Some more rage" suits Semirhage perfectly, doesn't it? :D

Actually, now that I think about it, maybe not. Hmmm. She seems more cool and calculating than angry... Wasn't she the one who defected to the Shadow without being forced, because she loved torture and realised that inflicting pain is only one step away from healing someone?

Not exactly.

Semirhage was revered as the greatest healer of her Age. But she inflicted torture on her "patients" as a price for her services (though I'm not sure if her victims realised that this is what she was doing or if they thought that the pain was actually part of the healing process), because if they were weak or stupid enough to get ill then they had it coming. And occasionally if she thought a patient didn't deserve to live, she would kill them and make it out like she simply failed.

Eventually she was found out and forced to choose between a demotion or being stilled. She chose to go to the Shadow. Her motive wasn't that the Shadow allowed her to inflict torture whenever she wanted (though that was a bonus), it was out of spite against the Aes Sedai for daring to care more about her victims than Semirhage herself. And she always knew that healing was one step away from torture, which was her problem.

She's basically a remorseless egomaniac with a God complex. She is a sadist because in her twisted pathology hurting people reminds her that she is superior to others, and because she feels the world (and by extension everyone in it) hasn't given her the unconditional worship she rightly deserved. So for her its about revenge and about power. She is certainly driven by rage, but that doesn't stop her from being cold and calculating either. It just means her anger is icy and controlled.

Note that as I haven't read any of the books, I could not have been aware of the character's... er... character.

Man, I love her! She's one character I'm going to be sad to see go down (unless she does anything to Ny).

Speaking of whom, I've realised I've again changed how I say her name. Now it's nav-een.

I used to have a lot of problems with some of the pronunciations in this series, and even after all these years of reading the WoT I still mispronounce them from time to time. Like Hoopy and Ratsy, I don't really discuss the books/characters verbally with anyone now, so I get the pronunciation from a first reading stuck in my head, rather than the actual one.

Some of ones I remember mispronouncing are:

Egwene - Eg-ween
Nynaeve - Nyn-aveh
Moghedien - Mogheddien
Semirhage - Se-Mirage
Suian - Su-ann
Mesaana - for some reason, I separate the two a's and pronounce it Messa-ana
Faile - Fayl
Loial - Lo-ee-al (three syllables for me, too)
Mazrim Taim - Mazzrim Taym (it's the same as with Faile - I just can't pronounce it as Tah-eem/Fah-eel, etc)

As for places:

Tel'aran'rhiod - Tellan-rhi-odd
Cairhien - Care een
Emond's Field - Emmonds Fields
Rhuidean - Roo-ee-deen

There must be a few more, but they elude me right now.

Noooo! He's loyal Loial!!!

My world is crumbling...

Wait, what?

Heh. Yeah, Hoops, you are mad on girl power! (Strangely, I hate that term, but I like powerful women.)

Some of the baddies in this series are awesome (in a baddie sort of way). They're also quite bad at being bad, or so I believed for a while. :p

Heh, it's not every powerful woman, it's the reallllly badass ones! The ones that seem completely unruffled at all times and could break you with a twitch of their eyebrow. Yeah.....

I thought that was every woman....zoinks

That's what Jordan would tell you ;) With an added sniff and smoothing of the skirts.

So, with all that Magic the Aes Sedai have and they can't remedy allergies and use and an iron...amazing

Even the audiobook readers change their mind it seems. Between book 4 and 5 it switched from Moe-gah-dean to Moe-gehd-ee-ehn

As long as it isn't pronounced Mogodon....

Sorry, Hoopy and Leisha, but I couldn't resist.:)

Brutal. I would use the word-replace feature in word and replace them with Joe, Jim, Lucy, Sally and etc. That would fix it, hyuhp.

Another one to add.

Cadsuane - Cad-soo-nee

I am aware that it should probably be Cad-su-ann :D

Oh, and one I missed the first time around (I think)

Aes Sedai - Ace Said-i
