Just so you know, Ouija is a trademark... Hasbro might object to you presenting it being used incorrectly... :p

Well, I've just realised that my characters don't even have a Ouija board so no worries there. I'm gonna either do clairvoyancing or dowsing or sommat instead.

When we were kids, my brother and I used a monopoly board turned upside down, one of my mum's sherry glasses and a pack of Lexicon alphabet cards or Scrabble tiles arranged around the board like numbers on a clock.

(These days I don't need all that if I want to speak to the dead; I just call my bank, my ISP, cable company, gas or electric supplier  )

They don't even have anything to make one though, I don't think, cos they're not home. I did ponder doing some glass pushing, that could work.

oh, okay. I thought they were in a pub hence the glass. And some pubs - especially rural ones (I'm thinking of ones in Dorset I spent a lot of time in) had board games and books.

Thinking about it, Gumboot's point on trademark could be equally appropriate to characters abusing a Monopoly board etc.

Yeah they're in a pub. I think I can either do simple glass pushing or, just get them to scribble down some letters on something and do glass pushing with that to make a kinda Ouija.

A writer friend used a actual pub name and said they only served: shepherd's pie; steak & ale pie; chicken pie - all with chips and peas. For vegetarians they offered - you've guessed it - chips and peas! The pub hasn't sued her yet.

I'd rename it, unless there were significant advantages to using the real name. If (WHEN) this book is a hit, they will happily do the "based on us" tourism thing, and you will dine/reside there on the house! Generally, though, you avoid any worries about offence, or legal matters by renaming.
