comma or ellipsis?

Ellipsis is essentially a longer comma.

I use ellipsis far too much.

Me too! Every time I write something, I find myself editing out dozens of the buggers  It's worse when I'm messaging someone though, because I type like I talk--kinda slow...little drawn out...not really any ends to a sentence, just kinda...ya know...running my mouth from one sentence to the next :D

I spent years messaging people online, trying to 'type' as I talked, 'cause it's hard to get across nuance in text and I figured it was a good thing to do.

Then I get this bright idea to write a novel and I have to undo all the years of trying to be 'real' while typing :) typical! (and not easy, I too edit out masses of ...'s, -'s and generally waffley and colloquial ways of talking!)

I usually offset this sort of thing with dashes. Ellipsis just looks untidy to me, especially two of them really close together.
