What are you working on right now?

What are you working on, writing wise, right now.

I started intense working with a police comedy 13.8.2018. I know it does not sound SFF, but I have an evil monster called Bureaucracy there. (You have only vampires and werewolfs and aliens and superheroes and superbaddies and... but I have A4 pollution and.... You can't compete with bureaucracy!)

Now I am working with character development. Then comes structural work. Then writing SFD (=Shitty First Draft). Then... Something?

I have a SDF about something connected to autism ready and waiting and I think it must wait long before I start revising it.

I think all the summer interruptions (=visiting and traveling) are done. Today I spend gaining traction again--reading existing passages, typing from my notebook, reviewing the outline--then on Friday I'll plunge in again.

This is Into the Second World, my Altearth version of Verne's Journey to the Center of the Earth. I've got about 25k written and so far the outline is not bent completely out of shape. I have my characters working their way down the Long Dig, a passage from the underworld long thought by scholars to be nothing more than a dwarvish epic tale but it's turning out to be true. My characters have faced some challenges and are starting to feel pretty good about themselves, but more challenges are coming.

What are you working on, writing wise, right now. It can be editing, research, short stories, novel, comp entries. Anything you're working on, I want to hear about. As long as it's related to writing.

At the moment my only current writing project is a fanfiction rewrite of the third season of a TV show I like, which was written very poorly. It had good chemistry and good ideas, but the producers had this idee fixe about their show that really didn't work. So I'm fixing it. I recently finished a short story for a magazine called Black Infinity, which specializes in creepy, spooky, space suspense stories.

I only need to cut one word, damnit!

It's a 350-worder for a local competition. I've already cut loads. It's far better than my previous attempt though - all was looking good at the 200-word mark, but it ended at 900 words. There's no chance I was cutting that one.

Edit: One minute later, I've deleted a "with". Phew. It's funny how something becomes easier when you share your pain.

Writing my 3rd book in the series. Cannot write every day as I want to since I have to attend school, work, family, my company work, marketing and other stuff. One day I will make enough from one job/ writing, and I will produce even more.

Until then, well...

Working on a short story idea - the first I've had that I've really loved - and wondering why the hell am I so allergic to being up front about what's going on in the story.

A short story. Very important one. I have just over 4,000 words, and am about 2/3rds of the way into the story. I need to get the final two scenes done in the next few days, then I need to edit it.

WIP totally stalled, but that is the norm for this lol. I have had a lot of other stuff to do.

Noodling about with the sequel-of-sorts to my novella that I'd subbed to Tor. My little kitsune and her water elemental partner are stuck in a massive traffic jam... on the Highway to Hell. There will be unexpected detours and terrorist chickens and creative cussing in the mix.

The novella length (20K - 40K words) really is my jam.

About halfway through Sir Edric's latest nonsense.

Incidentally, if any of the beta readers are wondering why I haven't annoyed them with requests for their assistance yet, it's because I want to get the whole thing done first. It's not the almost 100% made up as I went along approach I adopted for Temple, but I am being somewhat more spontaneous. That, of course, can cock up continuity and I don't want to waste people's time faffing with little technical changes for consistency's sake.

Feelin good. After more than a month of only producing 50-150 words a day, I've been banging them out these past 4 or 5 days!

YAY!!

I just finished writing (ok, typing) 800 straight words!

I said to myself, "Cathbad, you don't usually type so many words without a break! Maybe you should read over that trash before you continue?" After getting over my work being called "trash", I reread today's production.

And I like it! :D

Now, if every day is like today, I could actually finish this by the end of the year!! :)

I wrote more than usual yesterday too. Must be something in the air.

Hey me too.

Started off slow but soon found my fingers dancing over the keyboard. 1000 good words which is a lot for me in an evening session.

I wrote much shorter stories than usual, but I like them both. A few months ago I didn't think I wrote horror, but realised I did when it was pointed out. One look at the titles and there's no denying the two I've just finished are horror: Cold Casket and Castle Blood (though the latter is probably more surreal).

Working through the latest Sir Edric nonsense, trying to sharpen chapters. Also trying to think of a premise for a short story (often, I think the premise is the hardest bit of short stories).

Writing seems to have come to a halt at the moment as other things take priority. I think perhaps I need to get into a writing group again.

So, I was just asked how many words I've written on the current WIP I'm working on.

The dilemma: Is that the crrent word count, or how many words I've actually written?

With this WIP, more than any previous, I keep deleting sections to rewrite. My current word count is 14K... I estimate I've actually written closer to 24K on it.

I've spent the last two weeks deleting words - 800 of them. I've been awake until 2-3am three or four times in that period, so I'm rather tired. It was my longest story, at 10,300 words. I need to do this sort of thing more often, as I've written loads of stories in the past year or two and don't get around to that final edit as often as I should.

I've written a couple of new flash pieces that I enjoyed, to add to the pile. I think the 10,000 worder I just mentioned started off as a flash...

Edit: Maybe I should say I had my first acceptance this week. Highly Commended in a local competition!
