What are you working on right now?

Next day the body of the father is found. It's really coming together as a detective story with magical realism.
That sounds quite interesting. I mind plenty of tales of floods, huge storms and shifting dunes, from Buchan and other airts.

Glad to see you back. :)

Thanks. I don't know if it's the same floods. I keep finding out more about them.

I am also writing short stories based on the Dandy Lyon statue in Elgin. He teems up with a seagull to get revenge on the town. It's a perverse version of the Happy Prince (Wilde story)

@Phyrebrat well done, what is that word measuring thing you have? (is it software or your own creation) ...I'm working on a thing about a futuristic rock group and a dog stuck on a rocket with a mysterious stranger, it might be a book but it could definitely do with some honest metrics to see it through.

I hadn't been able to do any significant writing for some time due to family issues, but since those have now eased I can focus on writing again, I hope.

I think I'm going to take another crack at NaNoWriMo with an idea that's been floating around in the back of my mind for a while. It was going to be a short story, but I realized I can rework it and turn it into a novel with some tinkering. So tinker I shall!

I use the awesome Scrivener app (for Mac and Windows) which is crammed full of similar features. Indispensable writing software if you ask me (which you did, but even if you hadn’t, folks here’ll tell you it takes very little for me to get on the rooftops and start oyé-ing about Scrivener :D )

I thought there was a thread like this, but I've searched back and the only one I could find was 'What do we all write?' which isn't really what I mean.

So, this'll be interesting. We all like talking about ourselves...

What are you working on, writing wise, right now. It can be editing, research, short stories, novel, comp entries. Anything you're working on, I want to hear about. As long as it's related to writing. If you're fixing your car or something, I don't care.

Your turn.
Writing an Arrival novel with a twist I hope makes it unique (!). Struggling as a first for me but not sure where to put snippets for comment. Oh well it passes the time.

Hi, I’m new.
I’m really bad at finally settling down on one novel to write (I’ve gone through at least a dozen ideas already), but as of right now I’m working on a novel set some time in the 2000s/early 2010s about an abandoned MMO from the 90’s.

Welcome. You'll get a lot more coverage if you say Hi in the Introductions thread. It's not that hard to find and you'll encounter a lot more people to welcome you. And remember, just have some fun, here. :giggle:

Well, plans definitely changed. I made a post here a while back, don't remember when but it was back when I first joined, but it was about the futuristic anime-inspired story I was working on. I am still doing that, though I have currently put it off to the side while also completely changing what it was originally supposed to be since I have sort of moved onto a new main project.

The new project is something a little more based on my biggest inspirations for fantasy. My main three are Dark Souls, Berserk, and stories/mythologies from various cultural groups. What it is exactly is a story about a young man born into a realm that draws heavily from Viking culture, Norse mythology, and places like Scandinavia as well as other nearby lands. It is a blend of various different fantasy elements into one and even fuses the ideas of Vikings with that of knights you would typically see in fiction. One of the multiple different realms connected to each other, this one serves as the main setting for the story to play out as the main character finds himself embarking on a journey with others so as to restore a protective barrier surrounding their homeland. A horrid corruption has been spreading from an unknown source for decades now, but thanks to the magical abilities of a reclusive woman, it has not been able to get anywhere near the kingdom. Unfortunately, that shield has begun to wear itself thin and they must assist her in making sure it remains up so that the inhabitants inside will not suffer. But as the story goes on, they find that this is going to become a much bigger thing than simply protecting their kingdom and begin to wonder if it has not already infiltrated in one way or another. There's a lot more to it, but I think this is already kinda long enough as is.

I am (and I am as surprised about this as anyone) on a bit of a roll at the moment. I am writing page after page of gag strips all very tightly written, very directed - not my usual sloppy 'throw something in there and work it out later' method of writing. And the jokes seem to work on my first line of testing readers (i.e. they laugh) and it includes probably the most horrendous pun I have ever come up with. I say surprising, because generally at the moment I am feeling as miserable as all f*ck. I feel my life is sh*t (as is the rest of the world) and I want to sleep all the time. Classic signs for me that I am heading for a bout of depression. Part of me is either trying to write myself out of it or trying to get stuff out before the doors slam shut. It's interesting.

At the moment I'm mostly working on the revisions from the publisher with allmywires, but when I'm not doing that, I'm working on my Allery story.

More specific? Today, I had to add more kink to the romance. The publisher liked a certain scene we had, but wanted more pre-scene stuff. So it meant I had to put a weird search thing into Google. I won't share. :D But I ended up adding almost 400 words.

With my Allery story I'm currently researching lots of drug abuse stuff. One of my characters is a junkie. I was watching a vid on YouTube about a guy in prison going through withdrawals and learning about how the veins in your arms kinda disappear.

Your turn.
Nice, now I really want to read that kinky scene, hah.

I'm working on my first-ever fantasy novel, currently finishing chapter seven while an editor is going through the first five chapters of it. So excited to be on this journey!

I'm working on a faith-based SF novel; sort of old-testament meets Stan Lee. Spending more time researching than writing, trying to give authenticity to both science and scripture.

Definitely cutting my teeth taking this on without formal training, but having too much fun to really give a damn.

I’m working on and off several ideas. One of them is an urban fantasy setting which takes a fast and loose approach to the magical “rules” under which supernatural creatures adhere. There’s multiple “strains” of vampirism, lycanthropy, witchery, etc a la Captain Kronos. The easiest way to showcase this is probably thru a monster of the week formula.

Finished outline then wrote first five-hundred words, then proceeded to accidentally delete those first five-hundred words…oops.

Waiting for something(?) to start again…
