I know some people keep cork boards and fill it with pics of places and people in their WiPs, which I would love to be able to do but don't have the space.

But, the other day I discovered Pinterest (I'm late, I know). And made a board for 'Otherworld' - Otherworld | Pinterest

Took a while, but I might do one for the current WiP.

Anyway, thought I'd share in case it's something others would like to do for their own work.

Thats a fab idea Mouse. I love your collection of piccies. I have a gypsy caravan in my WIP too :)

Love it Mouse! Inspired, and will post my own wip board.

TBO

Yes, do! I really want to see other people's.

Rowan's pretty exact, your Daniel is a bit chunkier/hunkier, Sasha was a surprise (I pictured a large terrier).

Good stuff. :)

Ooh, really? It is mentioned in the narrative that she's a spaniel but I never specify springer. Maybe I should. Hmm.

And Daniel's quite plain but stocky in my head. Trying to find a plain actor was hard. :D

Gonna do TBM later. And start one for the current WiP - which I think will be helpful as I'm having difficulty picturing the MC at all and so can't quite get her mannerisms or anything in my head properly.

Glad we arn't the only people who pic actors and so on and say "Right, that is how Mr X looks, so I can be consistent."
I actually thought it was sort of cheating, a short cut to characterization that wouldn't sit well with people.

Ill tell mu co about pinterest, might be a good idea., nice one Mouse.

I'm a bit obsessed with this now. I did this one while at work this morning instead of doing any actual work: TBM | Pinterest

I don't tend to seek out actors for my characters, but I do spend ages looking at photos of places so that I can better describe things. In particular for Shuttered, I was looking at so many photos of Bellever and abandoned mills (not Lyme - I live 20 mins away and am very familiar with it already), and with TBM I spent hours looking at photos of Highgate Cemetery and places in London. Pinterest is handy for me to put all pics in one place.

Nope. It takes ages to upload the pics and would take me hours to make the board. I love the idea - the execution would be too much stress. :(

Springs, I have a writing folder in my photos gallery, where I copy any relevant images with captions to remind me what the **** that image is all about. I haven't a super fast internet connection, but it's worked for me so far.

like mouse i do not have a corkboard area though i would love one... mostly i count myself lucky if i can find a corner to write in for a bit.
i do have idea files but they are physical files. i have a three prong folder of clippings.. pictures and articles both. i cut and paste them onto three ring paper with a bit of explanation and colour diagram on the bottom. set these into a magazine holder.
pinterest sounds lovely, mouse. i think that people would be laughing their bottoms off at anything i posted there, though. but if my ideas weren't silly as all get out, i'd be muchly tempted. :D

Very cool idea, Mouse. And the Shuttered one is right on target with how I pictured it. I love the whole thing with using the pics to help with place descriptions.

I looked into Pinterest ages ago, when it was still invitation only, and got annoyed with it for that reason. Never went back. Might be time to look into it again.

I've done Pinterest for a little while now, and I find it quite useful for focussing my brain into the right sort of mood. I don't generally think about which actors are like my characters (although, in the WIP, there are an alien and a robot that I imagine voiced by Kate Winslet and Daniel Day Lewis respectively), but the right pictures tend to prod my mind in the right direction.

Ooh, very nice. Makes me wish I was writing more otherworldly fantasy. Though, my current WiP features other dimensions so I am able to go more weird, which is fun.
