DISCUSSION -- April 2014 75+5 Word Writing Challenge

Oh wow! Thanks for your vote Glen!

..and Phyrebrat - thanks too for shortlisting!

This is kind of an aside, but whoever wins... would you be interested in having this as your avatar for the whole of the next month:

There's only one dinosaur around the rusty shopping trolley, and that's OLD Aun himself!

I'm rather curious about this shopping trolly? Is there a story behind this or does everyone just have an unhealthy obsession with temporary-mobile-food-storage-systems?

There is a story. Aun had one month where he wrote an amazing funny story about a shopping trolley which kind of stuck. :)

September 2012 was the month of Perp's chosen theme, "Dinosaurs (shopping trolleys optional)", but I don't remember where the shopping trolleys came from in the first place. :)

And since I'm still within the editing window, here are my lists:

Remedy -- His Finest Creation
Cat's Cradle -- The Coal Miners
Khayos -- A Young Contraptor's Nightmare
mosaix -- Water Cooler Moments...
johnnyjet -- Steamhenge
*chrispy -- Dragontoy*
paranoid marvin -- A Warning to the Mods
HB -- If Tolkien Had Been a Fan...
StilLearning -- Culture Clash
Bowler1 -- A Slight Misunderstanding
Boneman -- Regency Revival
TJ -- A Stark Encounter or Two
Ursa -- Hue and Cry

Yes, just as I feared, it was necessary to vote for chrispy again. I dread the consequences.

Thank you for the listing, TDZ! :)

And Ben, I remember that moment at The Oscars, but *wow* that hair, it seems that's what that moment should really be remembered for! :)

The shopping trolley thing is my fault? :D

I think when I was discussing themes before I set the challenge for that month up, someone mentioned trolleys so I sort of added it...

That challenge was set by Culhwch, Perp -- it was April 2012, Post-apocalyptic, Promises.

Here's Aun's entry:

Soul mate

Promise me everyday?

That’s a lot of promises.

Hope so! So swear, without crossing your fingers.

OK! I’ll always be here for you.

And you’ll keep talking to me, even when I piss you off! I’ll go mad if you quit.

Yes, but shut up now, we need to burn rubber.

Jack snapped shut the vanity mirror, tucking it safely into his overcoat pocket and began to steer his shopping trolley, alone across the wasteland.

Why, thank you so much, oh dusty one, for your confidence in me; so sorry to cause you such anguish. And massive thanks too to Titanium Ti, elementary I'm certain, who is too recently arrived to have learnt that one does not vote for Chrispy, plus thanks for:-BenSt, Starbeast and johnnyjet for their mentions.

I've managed to trim my 'short' list down below 25, which is progress, of a sort, and junk another try at the threehundreder, which isn't, and can feel six thousand posts breathing down my neck with nothing ready to display…

My list is nearly down to a quarter of the total, being:-AJB's (Calculating bug), Cat's Cradle's (Union in trades), Aun Doorback's (Urban renewal), Boneman's (Preservative Popemobile), HareBrain's (mechanical Middle Earth), Khayos's (Lightning bug), mosaix's (differing explanations of the same event), Parson's (Ecodragon Revenge), Perpetual Man's (Rollin' on the river), Remedy (son of a cylinder), SirGeoffrey's (Kindling), springs's (stitch in time), stormcrow's (Mechanical dollymop) and TheDustyZebra's (Asimovian get what you neeed). Finally I went for SirGeoffrey.

Ouahahaha, two whole votes – what can I think of that's really evil?

Chuckles.

I do like a challenge. Perhaps... Theme: Tinkerbell. Genre: mundane science fiction. :D

What's that I hear? "Don't encourage him."

Wow, I just noticed your vote, DEO, that was so kind, thank you! It's been such a strange/wonderful experience receiving votes this month. These Challenges are so cool, and such an inspiration. Thank you again, CC

Many thanks for the vote Martin, very much appreciated! The shopping trolley? April 2012? Good Heavens! It was my homage to Cormac McCarthy but was sadly, never released as a movie. Bringing us back up to date I shall be reading through all of our current entries this afternoon and making my vote.

OK, so as usual I could have dished out several votes - My top 4 (Short list) are

Khayos - A very neat and visual little story.
Remedy - There is beauty and sadness in this tale, which I loved.
KshRox - Wow - Would love see this developed into a bigger piece - Clever use of word count.
Boneman - As ever an extremely well delivered story.

My vote, just by an insect wing was Khayos.

Which I voted for Aun and 12 others did too. Normally 13 would be an easy winner, but it was unlucky 13 for Aun that time. 66 People voted that month, a good number. We've not seen 60 people vote for some time, cough, hint... I'm heavily armed too and with additional Crispy support.

Well, now, I do carry on the traditional complaints, but I didn't really object as much as all that. :D I adore Kipling, and food, too, for that matter.

Thanks for the mention, too, chrispy! Oh, and also to Phyrebrat for the "favorite" listing. :)

You're welcome Chrispenycate. You, come up with something, evil. Now I am afraid. Pardon me, whilst I let out a scream. "AAAAAAAAAHHHhhh!"

(runs away) "AAAAaaaaaahhhhnnn........." (runs back) "I drop my pen. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaahhhhnnn...."
