So everyone knows I love wood, in fact the wife says I am very wooden. She could be right. :)

What do you guys think of this for a cover for your favorite paperback, hardback, duology or trilogy?

Book slides in from the right.

I made it to look rustic, hence the dowels but I could remove them.

As an amateur book collector - I'm usually happy to buy someone up and coming on spec if the price is close to the price of a book anyway. For instance, I bought a signed, limited Chris Beckett at Worldcon for £20. A bit dearer than it was worth, possibly, but I'm sure he's on the up and up.

So, what I'm saying is that for someone like Teresa who already has a good following, you might get a higher cover price, for someone up and coming without a fan base you might shift extra copies, but not the extra revenue.

In terms of the packaging - I've never seen a wooden bound limited before, but it wouldn't put me off. I'd be a bit worried about it taking on sweat marks with handling, or bleaching in the sun, but I have goatskin ones that do that same, and cardboard bleaches badly. All collectors know how to store books to minimise that.

This would be in addition to any normal boxed set I would do. The box would be lacquered so sweat, sun-bleaching would have no effect.

I've never seen anything like that before, but who knows? You may be onto a winner. It would certainly attract attention. :)

(However, I can see one floor with the idea: people might get board with the book....:eek:;):))

I think it's gorgeous, and would (wood?) be a great collectible! I agree about the dowels, though.

When you publish my trilogy, I definitely want it in one of those! :D

I really like it. The Spine looks awesome on that too. Great idea.

I like a book you can kill a burglar with.

I quite like it. I don't go for collector's editions myself, though, so perhaps you should treat my view with a pinch of salt.

Edited extra bit: and Ratsy's right, the spine looks rather good.

I never thought of that, Thad. Maybe I should add spikes. :)

I agree that it looks terrific! I have purchased limited edition book & DVD sets before, and my thought for books would be that if there is a market for an author, there likely would be a market for a special edition of their work. The spine does look great, and I think the dowelier the better...that rustic look is awesome. So, I vote 'yes' on Proposition Wood! :)

Hey Gary, just an idea...maybe one of the Veil books could have an actual spine imprinted on the Spine???? oooooohhhhh

Backbone = spine. Book spine. Human spine. Next, ratsy will suggest binding it with human skin. :D

Ah right. I get it - haha!

Thanks Ratsy I think I might pass on that one, anyway get back to work. You have stories to write.:)
