Set + meet weekly writing targets!

I see this ...this.... shenanigannery from you!

So, TDZ... how do you know I'm not working on The Headstones of Bossington, hmmm? Go on, answer me!

See, you can't ... :p

So now how do you feel? :D

^ is working on Ill-born

I feel very ...vindicated? :D It's just because you had that look in your eye that said you were off doing crooked things.

(And you said a while back that you weren't that excited about the other one....)

I'm having a 'your writing is $@&!, your idea is $@&!, your characters are $@&!' day today and doubt is creeping up.

And you know what? That's exactly what you said about Headstones, and it was fabulous! So far. :D

I've written 4,005 words so far this week; plus I edited a chapter with the help of text to speech software, which helps me recognise silly mistakes and hear the flow of the sentences.

I might write more after Britain's Got More Talent. :)

I exceeded my target by writing 5,143 words. Over the weekend, I wanna edit and proofread my latest chapter, then write 1,500 words of the next one (which I'm especially excited about).

I'm torn between tantrum and joy :D. And for the record, my life is a catalogue of committing crooked things. ;) As I'm in a sulk with Ill-born I read through the 30 pages of Headstones today and even toyed with adding to it but I just need to get this bloody 9 y/o POV bit done with Ill-born or my mind will turn to jam. (and not nice jam, but that no-frills jam with a white label and made of nothing but red and sugar).

You're putting me to shame! God on you, Ashleyne. Maybe you could send some of that productivity this way.

I've had a mixed couple of days. Yesterday was dreadful. Today was better, despite watching 3 episodes of Paranormal Witness Series 3 (I know it's rubbish but I love the OTT-ness of it. And they were doing the Rendlesham Forest UFO incident which I love).

So
Ill-born Stats:
Yesterday: 199
Today: 1484
Week: 4471 .
Overall: 30,952

I got there in terms of word count (I have 12 chapters down, usually c 13-1700 words each) but the new section has exploded a bit so I have a couple more chapters to add.) I'd like, by the end of next week, to be up around the 35k mark and have a clear sense of where it's going. :)

I only managed 3200 words this week - well below my target.

I'll probably try some writing tonight, but I'll put that to this week's tally.

Main concern has been to not just write volume that I'm going to discard - will be printing out all my notes for WIP2 this week, which may lead to a temporary surge in creativity. And hopefully wordcounts of value. :)

Phyrebrat, I'm find that I'm the most productive, either, when I've eaten, when I'm listening to instrumental music, when I'm irate or when I'm struggling to sleep; try one of those and it may make you more productive. Alternatively, try and remember what activities you were doing during the days on which you wrote the most, then replicate those activities.

I wrote 1,000 words over the weekend. I'm happy with this week's overall progress: 6,162 words and two edited chapters.

Target for this week is to finish editing/rewriting my first chapters and read through the rest. Hopefully reach the point where I'm ready for other eyes to look at it for me.

Target from now until Saturday is the same as last week. To write at least five more sketches. Then Saturday it is time to narrow them down and perfect two of them.

Even though I feel I'm capable of doing more, I'm gonna retain my target at 5,000 words: I wanna take my time and not rush through. I've typed 1,476 words today.

Ill-born's stats for this week are dreadful:-

I managed 306 words for the entire week!

So, I'm down 529 from the previous week
and now 4694 for this week, making my total word shortfall of 5223.

Will I be able to hit 10223 by next Sunday to make up for this sorry state of affairs

In my defence, I've had to switch from one character's story arc in 3rd to the main character's over-arc in 1st. Half of the problem has been momentum, the other half has been fear.

Going to have a damn good try to fix this deficit ;)

Managed my target and wip is off with my writing group. I have a super busy month ahead with parents visiting and kids starting vacation soon, so will take a break from writing (and targets!).

I went down a dead end and had to start from scratch. i'm now 22,000 words in and feeling love for it again. I think coming from a very polished work to a rawer work made me feel it was much worse than it is. Onwards!

I've stopped doing this for the moment - I need to get my notes for WIP2 properly in order first. I'm concerned about writing for the sake of it, and simply producing a lot of text I'll have to cut or rewrite, not least because I'm missing structure and context. I'm now confident I can write to a high standard on a first draft, so I'd rather get my notes together, and be clear on structure and characters, before starting that proper.

In the meantime, I've kept very busy rewriting WIP. I'm working at it everyday. I'm also writing copious notes and fragments for what follows in the series.

No doubt I'll return to this thread when I start drafting WIP2 proper. :)

I'd also stopped and am behind by 15k words! That's pretty unacceptable and my problem has been part-inertia* and part not knowing how to navigate a certain plot point.

It's taken me 3 weeks - just ruminating on the characters as opposed to the plot has resolved this (surprise, surprise, eh?).

As a result I've managed about 1.2K in the past 2 days.

*inertia is my biggest obstacle. I find if I just sit my **** down and get on with it, I pick up the flow and can really get on, but so often I find it incredibly difficult to start lately.

I finished my write through as hoped before my hols. And now a new little something is taking hold.

But for this week I am to do nothing. At all. So far I've written 600 words and two blogs...

Somedays I find it hard to start, Phrye, but by the end of a few days not writing, it explodes on me. Most messy.
