Looking for good space battles!!!

I thought I would reread HOTQ but lost my copy several house moves ago. I have then gone on Ibooks and seen OBS and HOTQ are free!

Well, for real-world physics space battles, it would have to be Alastair Reynolds - Redemption Ark and Absolution Gap being his best, most battley books.

As for Honor Harrington and so on...too American. Sorry.

The middle books I actually found myself sympathizing more with several of the peep characters, Thiesman and Foraker etc, as they were the ones facing impossible odds against the 'goodies'.

Yeah, that was so obviously deliberate at the time. I was wondering what he was doing. Was he already planning the Haven-Manticore Alliance against Mesa?

I loved the ship to ship battles in the Helfort Series. They were well thought out and thrilling the entire time. That's exactly what I'm looking for. Honestly I enjoyed that series in general but the last book or two abandoned space almost entirely if I recall correctly which was a bit of a let down.

Thanks everyone for the input. I'm currently on book 4 of the Honor Harrington series and so far its been a good ride. I also read the first two books of the Man of War series and the first Ark Royal book. Always open to more suggestions though.

Totally agree with the Weber recommendation.

Elizabeth Moon's Vatta's War books are quite fun. Also maybe some of her Serrano books though some are ground based rather than space based.

I saw the Ark Royal ones, looked interesting but tend to prefer a harder spin on them.

Yeah the Reynolds ones are good and I was thinking of recommending them, albeit rarely traditional battles as such, the weaponry gets pretty weird and wonderful and a bit of a step away from the broad sides and boarding actions the OP seemed to be after... but as a hard core Reynolds fan any self respecting sci fi junky should read them.
