GRRM confirms that fans have guessed ending!

Personally, I think that her learning to 'borrow' (as Granny Wetherwax would put it) the cat in order to out the kindly old man as her tormentors is symbolic of her innermost thoughts, that she is only pretending to become 'no one' and the arts she is learning are only a means to an end. Besides, if a contract on Sansa or Rickon came up and she had genuinely become a faceless man she would have to say "I know her/him" and she would not be allowed to take the contract.

@Narkalui, i totally missed your post about keeping the blood pure and the magic.

I follow you on that perhaps the forces of fire and ice are the two biggest magic players. I'm not completely sold on their being some higher powers that influence the world. It may just be that fire and ice are natural antitheses and therefore their magic wielders ended up going to all-out war with each other in aeons past during the long night. But the possibility is there, since GRRM s influenced by Tolkien. I can also follow you on that it's possible that Dawn is the legendary sword, and that some Dayne ancestral was the great hero. That those wielding fire and light 'won' and managed to 'seal' those who wield ice magic in the far north of westeros. It's all very much possible, wether it truly is like that, i really don't know.

Valyria was a vulcanic area. Dragons are creatures of fire. So it's not surprising they where found there. As for the people of valyria. They where not the only ones possessing magic in Essos/westeros. Magic very much exists in GRRM's world. Albeit it's no longer as much overt as in times past. It seems to me only natural that when surrounded by vulcanic area, the valyrians learned fire magic. (Aside from how to control dragons). Very much like the people living on the Royne learned water magic. I suppose in a similar vein you could say that those living in the north are more naturally gifted in ice magic. Since they live in the cold north. It may be that the others are in truth ice magic wielders.

What makes this all complex is, that the first men came to westeros and encountered the children of the forest. The northerners and the first men are more closely connected to the magic of the children of the forest and their gods. The wall and other stuff seems build against the others. So it's not a clear cut puzzle there.

Plus I'm not really sure of the timeline of the long night. But i take it the first men travelled to westeros. Came into contact with the children of the forest. Fought their war. made peace. Something happens to trigger the long night. Children+first men (or those not affiliated with the others) fight them alongside the forced of light and fire.

Same thing for the relationship between fire and light, dragons and the house of dayne. Sure the house of dayne has purple eyes, but are they descendants from Valyria. I got no idea. They don't seem to have a history of controlling dragons. I would also note that inbreeding most definitely had a negative impact on house Targaryen. Aerys was called the mad king for a reason. There was Brighflame as well, the septonlike king, Dany's brother viserius, ... Inbreeding made their lineage tainted by madness.

Wouldn't it be nice if we could sum it up like this
Ice/darkness magic - All kinds of magic in between like forest, water magic that is made from the clash between fire and ice - fire/light magic
Somehow i doubt it's that clear cut. So too with the people involved.

Magic, the mystery of the others, the long night ... still need to be properly explained by grrm. Somehow i doubt he wil do so. He'll probably choose to leave it mysterious.

It would also be interesting to find out at which time the order of the maesters was created. Since they seem to dislike magic, and prefer science. And therefore could be construed as enemies of all things magic. The citadel always seemed a bit evil to me (lol). I know i would not trust my maester if i was a lord. I'd be sure to check up on his background. Make sure he knows his place, and loo to him should he tresspass the boundaries set by me and do something like read my mail.

Perhaps you're right, probably not as clean cut as I made out. But I definitely think I'm onto something regarding Jon as a union between Fire and Ice...

What is really going to piss everyone off is if she is the one that kills Daenerys at the end and becomes her through the magic of the faceless men.
It is not unreasonable to think that she will assassinate the king/queen, or the one who is expected to take over. It could be she will just chop more off her list like Cersei. But maybe if she becomes "no one" and really leaves her past behind she will assassinate a Stark! Now that would be something.

I said this in another thread but hey ho: if a contract for a Stark (Sansa or Rickon?) comes to the faceless men then Arya would have to say "I know her/him" and would not be able to be the one to take on the contract.

only if she follows the rules, but yes, you are correct.

I think it would be more likely that, should a contract come up for a stark, she will get as much info as she can, then try to save her brother or sister.

I can't see her sitting idly by while there is a contract out on Jon Snow.

Probably death.

Let's make a list of all the movers and shakers in Westeros the Arya doesn't know: off the top of my head Mace Tyrell, Margeary Tyrell, Harry Harding, Alayne Stone (!), Lyn Corbray, Euron Greyjoy, Stannis and his wife and daughter, Melisandre, the High Sparrow.

Any other potential Westerosi targets for Arya No One?

Arya's upcoming role is somewhat a dilemma in my head. I feel the Faceless men are most likely contracted by Varys/Ilyro. However they don't actually seem to have actual need for them. Varys clearly has his own intelligence army of nasty little boys who are willing to kill. Plus the Faceless men originated among the Valyrian slaves and settled in Braavos. Which kinda makes me feel like they are more likely enemies of all things dragon related. Every now and then i play with the idea that arya is one of those little boys under Varys command. But is she there to help varys or infiltrate his network if so... Dilemma's, dilemma's, dilemma's...

I also heard in a youtube video that Arya will be connected to Elia Sand. Whom last we heard was in the water gardens in Dorne.
I've been googling to find more about this theory, but haven't been able to find it yet.
