Guess These Authors (SS4)

Oh, so many stories to read, how wonderful! I am having some problems with eye strain right now, so I will download these, and read them one per day, over the next few days. I'm already excited thinking about the next Secret Santa! :)

And...then there was my story. Hope--for whom the story was written--has been very kind in encouraging me to post the story, and though I am really nervous, I know this is the right place to do this. This is the longest piece I've ever attempted; and honestly, it's been 35 years (high school) since I've even tried to write anything (except the challenge stories here). So, there are things still that are wrong, and the punctuation may be iffy in places...and the story contains one of the longest sentences you will ever read--it's very long intentionally, btw, though perhaps not wisely. I hope all of you wonderful folks will at least find it entertaining. This is the first third of the piece..a little over 4k words. The last 2/3s needs an edit still, so it hovers, waiting. I'd love to hear what everyone thinks, thank you! :)

@Phyrebrat: What we have so far of The Folding has excellently realized characters, a very convincing, realistic style, and an unusual fantasy concept.

Thank you Victoria, for spending time reading it, and for such positive feedback. I hope the odd bit of language didn't offend. Will be carrying on with it today.

I've just finished it, Phrye, and it's fantastic! So much work, I'm amazed. I think it could expand into something much longer if you wanted it to.

Many, many thanks, I loved it!

Thanks @springs, I'm chuffed you liked it. Thank you for making me aware of dialogue punctuation rules (I've spotted more typos and repetition here and there in The Folding) the other week, it really helped with this.

So, I take it you want me to send you the finished story which I'm guessing will end around 30K :p

Yesssss. I need to know the end.

And I'd hate people to be frightened of sending me anything. I'm frank in crits cos I should be, but I'm just so chuffed that anyone would write a story for me and delighted when I love it. :) But I'm a pussy cat, really.

I just wanted to thanks Hope again for taking the reins on this one. Maybe one day I will actually do something...oh and thanks Springs for creating the Ratsy Challenge...:coffee: *sip*

And if anyone is watching this thread and hasn't submitted something to Springs for the 100 word Challenge, you have a couple more days! I would personally harass everyone but I don't know who has subbed stories and who hasn't...have I even done one? :ninja:

I really love your story, Chris. It's so moving, and beautifully written...sad, but lovely. I really admire your imagery here, well done!

Victoria, I'm sorry to say that I cannot open your story file, and I would love to read your work...I wonder if this is saved as a word file, or if it could be, and reattached (I don't really understand the different ways files can be saved...or why I can't open this one)? I hate to be a bother, but I wondered if there's any other site (as with spring's Namesake) where the story is posted? Thank you! CC

Wow, springs, Namesake is remarkable. The first half reminded me of Hemingway, for the descriptions on the boat, and of nature. And the whole--what a beautiful, atmospheric story. This is how I wish I could write...I felt and saw every experience you described for us so clearly; it almost seemed I was there. It's lovely.

Oh, were we expected to write something? I thought it was guessing whose style Springs was parodying…

Here's another type of file (I don't know anything about these computer things either) which I hope you can open, of a slightly earlier version.

And your story was charmingly whimsical, and seems to have been a remarkably difficult request to fill.

Ah, thank you, Victoria! I can download this file, and will read this in the coming weeks! :)

And thank you for the kind words on the first part of my story; it was really fun to write!

Just finished the first part of Phyrebrat's story...wow, PB, it's wonderful! Very creepy! LOVE the idea of the si...... peo...! (Didn't want to give much away!) I thought the first half of the story was particularly strong. Enjoyed the characters; I think this shows real potential, well done! CC

Victoria, I wanted to mention that I really-really liked your story! I loved the version of the world you created...it's such a fascinating time/place sort of world, and you brought it to life beautifully, IMO. The characters were so well drawn, and the storyline fascinating. As I watched the little bar on the right side of the file going down-down-down to indicate the story's passing, I got very anxious toward the end and began hoping that this was only the first part of a much-longer piece; that would be my only wish for The Slow Assassins--that there had been a longer denouement (maybe someday?). Well done!
