DISCUSSION -- October 2014 75 Word Challenge

Fantfar -- Thanks for the short listing.

Winter Light -- Thanks for the mention of my originality.

Thank you, jastius, for the vote! It was a wonderful surprise, on a dark rainy morning! :)

And thank you Remedy for the listing! Another very nice surprise. :) Very exciting contest...we're ging to go right down to the wire again! Good luck to all contenders! CC

So, first up, thanks to Cat's Cradle, Talysia, farntfar, chrispenycate, and A. Fare Wells for the mentions/shortlists. Much obliged!

My shortlist is quite short this month:

Cat's Cradle - The Werewolf Sighting at the Abandoned Mansion
(A Junior Ghost Brigade Story)
- I'm just a sucker for this sort of thing, and I loved the mousetrap reference, and the last line.
Mr Orange - Things that go BUMP in the night - I liked the Julie/Ghoulie joke, and the Reapie bit.
Ursa Major - Lap of the Gods... What a spectacular pun, and ending a story that I thought was really nicely executed.

but my vote went to:
WinterLight - Lucy, It Must Be Done - I thought this was very creepy and unsettling, and to do that in a way that I found convincing in 75 words is really impressive.

Another very difficult time narrowing these down to my favorites. But finally . . .

My Long List, Short List and *****Favorite *****
1. Mother's Lake - Ashleyne. B. Watts
2. Lucy, It Must Be Done – WinterLight
3. Holowe'en - Victoria Silverwolf

14. The Long-Legged Man – Culhwch

Phyrebrat, yours stuck out for me because of its unique twist!

Thanks for the great comments, Victoria & Starbeast. And thanks for the honorable mention, telford.

I thought I'd only have a shortlist of around 5 or 6 entries, so I wasn't quote prepared for this one:

Juliana
Valis13
Victoria Silverwolf
telford
HareBrain
Hex
Darkchrome
Teresa Edgerton
Lukethebloody
Mosaix
Alc
Culhwch
TJ

In the end it was a tie between Cul and Valis13 and after much deliberation, I gave it to Cul.

And thanks to the following:

johnnyjet & Bowler1. It's nice to get two votes in such good competition. Thanks!
And thank you for the shortlist and mentions from Ashleyne. B. Watts, farntfar, Chrispy,

& CC - I'm pleased this month for getting so many nominations ;) <applause, cry, sniff>

Wow, shortlists galore - thank you so much Chrispenycate, TDZ, Mr Orange! Remedy for the mention and Farntfar for almost making it! Didn't Farntfar enough, obviously, but Juliana's is no mean story to just lose out to...

Now to vote: Shortlist, finalists,(any of whom could have won, it was murder separating them!) *winner*

Juliana

Remedy
Holland
Chrispenycate
Mr Orange
Mosaix
Quellist
*Parson*
The Judge

(And, like others, I'm a little disturbed at how good Parson is becoming with 'darker' stories...)
