American Warships class abbriviations use two letters:
BB - battleship (maybe Bumblebee)
CA - cruiser (Cat) or CL for light cruiser
DD - destroyer (dodo)
That would also give your character a hint about the force mix. Although if this is contempory times I don't think anyone has battleships in service anymore
