As an American born in 1966, I don't know that I have any qualifications for this topic... but I'll put in my two cents anyway.
It comes down to how much influence Edward VIII would have had upon the running of the government and if he'd had any issue, right? Any? Lots?
Wallis Simpson was married twice before becoming the Duchess of Windsor, yet never concieved. Edward had a number of lovers/mistresses before Wallis and never had any illegitimate children. I don't know that if Edward and Wallis intentionally tried any harder that they ever could have had a child. Most likely Elizabeth still ascends.
Friendly to the Nazis, what impact could Edward have had upon WW2? Enough to have prevented Churchill from serving as PM? Enough to keep Nazi Germany alive in the 1950's? The 1960's? If Fascism survived in Spain, Germany, and Italy, does the world go into a Cold War of East versus West? Do we get the Cambridge Five? Do we ever get James Bond in print and film? Would post WW2 decolonization be more or less problematic?
