Exchange portable telephone numbers (handy?), take a laptop or tablet with you and log on to Chrons, plan in advance which conferences you intend to visit - you'll still miss people. But you'll find some of them - and those might already have contacted others. While some people might be there without having said in advance.

Yes, an official Chrons hat would be handy, but with all the many and varied costumes, would it even get noticed?
 
I guess my mobile won´t work in the US. At least it did not, when I have been to the US some years ago.
I will certainly take at least a netbook with me. And anyhow, I have been told that I should actually do something at the opening ceremony (whataver - I don´t know details), so probably people can recognognize me that way.
 
I just heard the news that Worldcon has 9,000+ members. I have never been to a convention of that size before!

Yes, let's try to have a Chrons gathering! We have this site to coordinate. As the days draw near, we can figure out some way to find each other. At the very least, we can all crash in on Teresa's hotel room, LOL. Right, Teresa?
 
I can announce that there will be a reception with me on Friday, 8:00 p.m. in the Davenport, which is one of the con hotels.

Hey, I saw that you mentioned a concern about your mobile phone? Ask your service provider about it. When we travel from the U.S. to Japan there are several options such as renting a temporary phone (from a little shop near the Asian grocery market), exchanging a Japanese SIM card into a current phone, and renting a portable hot spot device.
 
Thank you for your advice, I will consider it. Probably the admins of the fanfund will also lend me a prepaid mobile - or I could also put some Euro on my skype account for phone calls.
As for Worldcon, I think everyone who wants to have a chat with me, will find me. There is not only the reception, I will also appear in both openening and closing ceremony. (I cannot tell you how nervous I am about that - I have no clue what is expected from me, I hope it is not much more than smiling and waving ...)
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, this whole project (giving it a try to apply for the TransAtlantic Fan Fund) went out of control.

Much sadness now, I'm not sure if I can make it to your reception. That's the same time as the Masquerade show, and I've signed on to be a contestant! The masquerade also starts at 8 and will probably go about 3 hours or so. Unless your reception is going on late into the night?
 
As far as I know, there is no open end to it. Are you at facebook? Then we can link to each other and if you see me online (I guess all the hotels have free WIFI, what is important to me as a foreigner), you chat me on and ask. But I don´t expect the party to be over so soon.
 
In case anyone wonders: It worked out that Denise and I met at Worldcon. The two of us are on this photo. The Wonder Woman is Denise. (y)
