The Hooded Man

I've never heard it before. Nor the Howland Reed theory. But then I only read this forum, the others have too many flamers and trolls!

I could have sworn I read it on this forum. I've been avoiding most other forums like plague lately because I don't want to talk about the tv show itself. I remember discussing it with my sister. And I remember I read a counterargument about it not being Varys because Men of Faith would complicate sh*t for Aegon and Dany.

Don't. It is a theory in which I firmly believe even if it turns untrue. There is still a chance that it is. ;p

Now I feel dumb...
I once eagerly posted a "new theory" only to have other people point out a thread from years gone by where someone else already posted the theory... and where I disagreed with it. Doh!!! Not only was I unconsciously plagiarizing, I was flip-flopping on the issue. That was embarrassing...

Unless you're writing a doctoral thesis on ASOIAF, you cannot remember it all or keep it all straight.

Amen! I love championing a lost cause. Maybe that's because my junior high school was an antebellum military school in the South and the school fight song was Dixie.

And maybe that is why your favourite theory revolved around 7 improbable children of Aerys. ;p

Revolves... not revolved... revolves. I'm going to cherish it until Martin denies it in writing. It gives so many possibilities. It means Tyrion, Jon and Dany could be siblings... dragonriders. It means Jaime was not just a Kingslayer, but a kinslayer. It means Tyrion is not a kinslayer. What does it say about Aerys' snub of Cersei for Rhaegar and his accpetance of Jaime for the Kingsguard? Cersei plotted to murder Jon. Cersei is going to be replaced by a younger prettier Queen... her sister, Dany... the valonqar.

Tywin is still kin to Tyrion through Johanna. Dany is still valonqar even without it. :p

Semantics... I'll stick my head in the ground for a while.

The first time I heard the "Varys is the new High Septon" theory, I was against it based on physical descriptions alone. the high sparrow is supposed to be a small and slight man, and varys... well Varys isn't. But as Sry said, Varys is a master of disguise, though this would meant that his "Varys" costume was a disguise all along, which begs the question WHO IS VARYS? and points the possibility that he could indeed be a faceless man.

However, physical descriptions aside, the more I think about it, the more I want it to be true and the more it actually makes sense in my head. Think of all the advantages Varys would have if he WAS the high septon.

1) the most important thing, it would mean that Varys has an army. not just an army, but a HUGE army. an army that many noble lords simply would not stand against. Who would oppose an army of the faithful?
2) by stirring up religious unrest against the current regime, Varys could pave the way for Dany/Aegon to come in to power. Even Aegon the Conqueror knew he had to have the faith on his side if he was to win the 7 kingdoms
3) with all this business with Cersei and Margery being on trial, Varys will hold all the power of the Tyrells in his hand. he would be able to turn the Tyrells against the Lannisters, into the waiting hands of Aegon or Dany, or he can ensure that the Tyrells continue to back the Lannisters and conspire against their mutual destruction. Who knows? if Varys is the High Septon, he may have being delaying the trials, counting on the fact that Lord Tyrell would pull all his men from the field, thus allowing Aegon a chance to take Storm's End. And as High Septon, Varys would get to choose who stands against frankengregor, as he would have known before he even accepted trial by combat who Cersei's champion would be. Choosing Loras Tyrel as the champion for the faith, and having him be killed by Frankengregor, might turn more lannisters against Cersei. For all we know, Varys might also be framing Cersei for the murder of ser Kevan.

To get things back on point, the hooded man is probably not Varys. I also don't think it's Mance, as his washerwomen seemed pretty genuine that they didn't kill big little Walder Frey. I think there is another murderer prowling the streets and walls of winterfell, and he doesn't like Freys.

Yeah. It's Mr Westerling. Just remember, I called it!

Also I think that Stannis will ultimately lose to Roose Bolton and I think Stannis will die in the conflict. After hearing this news Davos, having found Rickon and Osha will somehow bring them to Dany, possibly by Varys' machinations, in order to bring the north on side. Also I think that Brightroar will be found but will be given to Rickon and renamed Ice.

Sorry, did I say "think"? I meant "hope"

Not so sure about that Nark. I think if Davos finds Rickon, and stannis dies, then Davos will stick to his word and deliver Rickon to the Manderleys, in the hope that the Manderleys then support whoever Stannis declares as his Heir, which will probably be Shireen, with Davos acting as Regent until Shireen maries and/or comes of age.

Stannis won't die. He'll bend the knee to Dany or to Aegon (if Aegon is trueborn son of Rhaegar) and thus correct the one thing that weighted on his mind as shunning of his duty. In the end, he'll join the Night Watch and be LC.

Lot of wishful thinking there ahaha

Oh and his wife and daughter will die. Not from anything violent but from Greyscale.

Nonono. You see, greyscale is sleeping in the kid. And the kid and the wife (the notMelisandre wife) are heading towards the probably unluckiest place in whole 7 kingdoms and possibly beyond. Not even throne room in KL nor the execution spot in KL are that unlucky.

If that did happen, the Nightfort could become very much like the Sorrows on the Rhoyne. that is a chilling thought.

It is the most cursed place in Westeros anyway. XD

True, but right now at least it's empty, not being "garrisoned" by unpredictable, shambling zombie-people. Greyscale doesn't kill you right away, it drives you mad first. Who knows what an army of greyscale-mad knights and black-brothers might do at the wall. perhaps open a certain secret door?

Ahahaha exactly. And the Watch is no longer faithful. Let's remember that ice will only protect the realm so long as the brothers of the Night Watch remain faithful. Putting daggers in the back of LC doesn't seem to most faithful not to mention loyal thing to do.
